Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

@rbh, that was actually the command I was looking for:
I added a user and had no problem configuring the different settings but struggling with my root account (not that it's a big deal)... Looks like customizing configs is a little trickier (at least on my install).
For example, had to create the bunsen dir (and autostart) in /root/.config (like in my added user account) in order to get to something at startup otherwise openbox black screen hence my question about the config files...
Moreover, just tried the

bl-user-setup --refresh

but doesn't work for root ("aborting")...

Agree about the "testing" cat.

@damo, thanks I had absolutely no key bindings in my root account... don't know if that's normal behavior.
Checked man xbindkeys, found out that there is an xbindkeys_autostart line in my autostart file and had to copy an xbindkeysrc file from a user config (.xbindkeysrc copied to /etc/xbindkeysrc) in order to get key bindings but it works fine now. Just have to customize it to my likings.

And btw, 2006 Macbook flawless install (about 20 mn...) and working great (little slow because of the 1 Gb RAM but still fine).
Kernel panic with the Q35. Couldn't even run the live nor failsafe options, so went back to helium for now but still working on it. More on this discussed in this thread

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

The script usr/bin/bl-user-setup, is not suposed to be run by root.

The first lines of the script says:

#!/bin/bash
#
#    bl-user-setup: a script to populate a new user's HOME directory
#    using template files from /usr/share/bunsen/skel/

And continues further down with:

Normally this script is run automatically on a user's first login,
and inhibited after that by a flag file:
~/.config/bunsen/bl-setup

It can, however be run again by a user to update their config files
from a new version of bunsen-configs. In this case backups will be made
of any files which are overwritten.

If the user has already made extensive changes to their config files
it would be better to copy in new settings from skel by hand.

Are you realey login in to X as root? There is security problems with that. Better to avoid it..

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

Thanks for your help, rbh. Didn't even look at the script, just ran it to see what it would do (risky life... ;-) ).
Not a big deal as I said, I'm just customizing root a little (tint2, conky,..) but I usually log in as a user and use sudo whenever needed.
Also playing with a "test" machine, not in prod obviously.

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

IBM Thinkpad T43 1871-4AG Pentium M 1,8 GHz

Upgraded from Helium/Stretch in nov 2019, to Lithium dev repo/Buster.

Network Manager does not autoconnect to my wiffi.
In /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/**.nmconnection, I have the line:
    "autoconnect-priority=999"
Still in graphical UI I have to point to saved connection before pc connects.

xfce4-power-manager and nm-applet must be autostarted from ~/.config/bunsen/autostart

I now tested to run  bl-xdg-autostart --list, got following error:

$  bl-xdg-autostart
  File "/usr/bin/bl-xdg-autostart", line 56
print "Invalid .desktop file: " + path
                                  ^
SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'. Did you mean print("Invalid .desktop file: " + path)?

Line 56 in /usr/bin/bl-xdg-autostart:
print "Invalid .desktop file: " + path

Edited bl-xdg-autostart acording to suggestions. Got new error:

  File "/usr/bin/bl-xdg-autostart", line 104
    print "\t ", str
              ^
SyntaxError: Missing parentheses in call to 'print'. Did you mean print("\t ", str)?

Tried to purge and reinstall package bunsen-configs. Got the same error, when running.

This machine is not often used.. Will be wiped when InstallCD for i386 is ready.

On PC installed with Lithium DVD, command "bl-xdg-autostart --list" works. But it lists more than one screen.
Command "bl-xdg-autostart --list | more" gives some error and no list.

Would it be very difficult to use Devuan instead of Debian for the next version of bunsenlabs? It seems that Systemd is eating up all Linux systems.

Bunsenlabs is a stock Debian system. If you don't want to use systemd then use a Devuan-based setup.

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

IF I downloaded and installed Lithium in the last few weeks ( 3 weeks ago I think)

Is that step enough :

Then add this line to your apt sources:

deb https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/debian lithium main
Also make sure you add 'contrib' and 'non-free' to all the existing debian lines, something like:

deb https://deb.debian.org/debian buster main contrib non-free

Or I also need to do this :

Now you can get a rough Helium/Lithium clone by:

wget https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraf … um-dev.asc
sudo cp lithium-dev.asc /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends bunsen-meta-all

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

The lithium-dev-4-amd64.hybrid.iso, is from 2019.12.09. It is the latest development version of Lithium iso.
It is anounced here: Lithium test iso available
If you use that, you now do not need to do anything more than install.
When Lithium goes from devolopment staget to stable, you need to edit sources.

* You can also use the development reopos at https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraff/lithium-dev.
1 You can install Debian Buster without X, import apt-key for Lithium dev (https://kelaino.bunsenlabs.org/~johnraf … um-dev.asc), edit sources to use Lithium dev, add all bunsenlab metapackages.
2 You can upgrade from Helium to Lithium. Also then you need to import apt-key for Lithium.
Read about "Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up"

This is correct. If your sources don't get set up correctly (you cannot update the system or download Debian applications) feel free to report it here. We can always split any lengthy discussion to a different thread if necessary.

That happens if you install without internet connection. You have to manual edit sources.list and add your prefered debian repo.

I suspect that your computer is using the i915 video driver which for some reason does not seem to play well with light-locker in combination with the lightdm-gtk-greeter.  If "lsmod | grep i915" produces any output then you have this video driver.

My experience has found two workarounds. Try one or both and see if that fixes your problem.

Re: Experimental BunsenLabs Lithium repository has been set up

Thanks for the help. I don't have i915 driver. Tried the slick greeter it doesn't work.
It is not a problem before in the fresh install of the ISO candidate. Light-locker started to have problem when I uninstalled some pre-installed programs. I just don't remember what program triggered the error.

If you have the disk space, set up a fresh-install testing partition to test this issue with.
