Debian Stretch RC 3 Released

Debian RC 3 for Stretch

Things are churning along at Ma' Deb's homestead!  Looking at the list of changes, nothing jumps out at me as being ground breaking, but the dev's here would know better than I.  Anyone wish to look over the changes and see if anything is improved that will impact us?

Also, will our Stretch-dev iso change due to this new RC 3? Are we immediately implementing this in our own iso?

Re: Debian Stretch RC 3 Released

There is no Stretch-dev iso btw. That's some way down the road still.

Also, BL is Debian essentially - we don't have to "implement" any changes in Debian, they'll be incorporated automatically.

Re: Debian Stretch RC 3 Released

@Horizon, that RC3 refers to the debian-installer package, and is the latest recommended way to install Debian testing (stretch)...
https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/

So the changes you linked to refer to the installer, which has already gone through 8 alpha versions as well (scroll to the bottom of this link).

stretch itself is still being fixed daily, though carefully as stretch is in "deep freeze". stretch being frozen doesn't means fixes aren't happening, it means all fixes are monitored instead of happening automatically, to minimize the chance of breakage...

Our "experimental" ISOs that @johnraff has been posting...

... are still based on Debian stable (jessie) but use live-build from testing to give us UEFI boot support. We're calling this upcoming point-release Deuterium, since that's an isotope of Hydrogen. Cute, right?

If a user has successfully installed BL and routinely upgraded their packages, there's no need to re-install.

When stretch becomes the new Debian stable version, we'll release Helium. At that point, Debian and BL users will have to decide if they want to upgrade to that new version by doing a fresh install or by running dist-upgrade.

Sorry if that's going over info you already know, these posts get read by lots of people all over the world with different levels of English comprehension. wink

Re: Debian Stretch RC 3 Released

Apologies for the late response! Thanks hhh, a much appreciated "reminder"...I have such a leaky faucet for memory. Also been putting so much time into my job, it's hard to retain stuff for my own hobbies and interests... SO I'm using this as an apology to all if I ever (probably have..) ask something that I've asked before..

My only question here is if you're download one of the Deuterium testing iso's, and Helium is released, can one dist-upgrade to helium from Deuterium safely? I would think so, since mostly everything from Deuterium is going to be rolled into Helium I assume.

Except the gtk stuff may break. And libinput is used instead of synaptics. And...  @HoaS and the other gurus will tell us what else will be problematic wink

Re: Debian Stretch RC 3 Released

GTK3 will break, please uninstall bunsen-themes and install arc-theme, or download bunsen-themes-dev.

I uninstalled libinput, but YMMV.
