Not news really, but reference about Debian's Long Term Support programme. Jessie's good for another year, Stretch till 2022: https://wiki.debian.org/LTS

Re: News that might affect BunsenLabs

Of course BL uses the Debian default systemd, but those who'd rather use alternative inits might be cheered by another bug report suggesting that Debian intends to go on supporting things like elogind: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=925331

Synaptic gone from Buster.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … =818366#55

Because it doesn't work with Wayland which is the defdault login for Gnome which is the default DE for Debian...

Does it mean that it's gone from their xfce and other DEs as well?

Re: News that might affect BunsenLabs

ouch.
the second link says that the actual reason for the removal is "failure without error message".
I hope they get it fixed & put it back in ASAP. forcing things like GNOME software manager on all those "the terminal pains me" GUI freaks out there is not good.

^ Thanks for the link, very interesting. According to it, Synaptic is back but still not functional under Wayland

While Synaptic has been around  forever (I used it first about 12 years ago?) it is right that this doesn't work (anymore, by default anyway, there seem to be hacks around it), but I don't get why Debian would not include it at all since they still ship Xorg and 20 more desktops anyway, it's not in line with the attitude they are known for -- seems like they now care a lot more about brand. However, doesn't GNOME even have its own package manager / software center? Synaptic is not even the default package manager of GNOME. Non sequitur re. the GNOME issue. Most likely brand concerns.

Yes, gnome-core includes gnome-software (which is actually quite nice, but bloated of course).

What I don't get is the Firefox issue... without Wayland as a back end, switching to fullscreen in Firefox (keyboard shortcut F11) locks the entire desktop up, the screen glitches/freezes, no mouse or keyboard input so you have to do a hard shutdown (or ssh in and shut it down).

The workaround is to download a Firefox Nightly build and run it with Wayland support...

env GDK_BACKEND=wayland firefox

Is that all going to be pre-configured on Debian GNOME? The only version of FF in Debian is firefox-esr, they're not going to add a new browser this late in the freeze... I don't get it.

Re: News that might affect BunsenLabs

I received an email from LXLE Project Administrator Ronnie Whisler...

Ronnie wrote:

Hello,

I am emailing you to ask for your blessing to include/use your themes in
the next release of lxle.

thanks
ronnie

Of course the answer is "yes", we're Open Source and our themes and icons are available via our repo or GitHub. They're all based on other people's work, anyway, I'm a hack. :monkey:

Very nice of him to formally ask, though, don't you think?

I'll respond tomorrow and give him the go ahead, plus some questions as to which themes he wants to include so I can give him the lowdown on any bugs that I know of.

Anyway, with stevep of MX Linux posting here, Dobbie creating ArchLabs, us being an official Debian Derivative, and now this, BunsenLabs seems to be making an impact.

I occasionally wonder if corenominal keeps tabs on his old pet project, but I doubt it.

I'll update you with the email exchanges.  8)

Re: News that might affect BunsenLabs

Yeah it is nice to be asked.  mrgreen of the ArchBang project messaged me the other day to use the AL themes in ArchBang.  It's a nice feeling when you get messages like that.

Re: News that might affect BunsenLabs

It all starts with a logo that leads to a wallpaper. I can't theme anything without a good wallpaper. That logo is yours. Thanks for sharing it. bows

Recently posted on another thread, Lithium (probably, except horizontal tint2 will still be the default config, and that won't be the default conky, and it needs some other tweaking)...
