In the spirit of ohnonot's crunchbang fortune package ftw!-thread, lets collect here the gems that appear in BL forums.
Collection of quotes
User ohnonot maintains a collection of Crunchbang and Bunsenlabs related quotes at
https://framagit.org/ohnonot and
https://notabug.org/ohnonot/fortune-mod-cbbl
Collection can be used with fortune program. Read instructions on notabug page.
Rules for adding new quotes:
must come from BL or crunchbang forum (we'd love some more #! forum items!)
must work out of context
must be original, meaning it must not be another person's re-quote.
must be family friendly or safe for work or whatever that's usually called - but since BL forum is family friendly anyhow that goes without saying. And don't take this too strictly
don't abuse this to glorify yourself or push some agenda; think of the BL users actually reading this when they log into their system. If in doubt it often helps to wait 24h, then think again.
It does not have to be a joke, It can be quoteworthy for many reasons. Feel free, we add what you want, not what this repo's maintainer wants!
--------------------------------------
I'm very much in favor of snappy, sharp one-liners (in awebb style), but today bronto's lengthy explanation caught my eye:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 8029#p8029
About the xy problem, quoting
User doesn't know how to do X, but thinks they can fumble their way to a solution if they can just manage to do Y.
I don't really find that particularity interesting or funny, I would call that the default human behavior and the solution (when found) will:
- prevent future me to behave in the same way, so in itself is a (long-term) solution.
- doing Y did a lot of important discoveries (where X was declared uninteresting at the end)
- doing Y will/may raise common know-how
- doing Y will prevent dogmatic (single book) behaviors
- the direct solution to X (generally accepted dogma) may be so stupid, that it actually needs a better way with Y in between
- I could find a lot more hereConclusion: xy problem does need a rewrite, since it misses the actual problem, heh
By the way, ohnonot, how's the fortune package doing?

now I can leave yet another (new!) axe behind the dresser and sit in my rocking chair by the fire playing with conky
Wasn't there a signature similar to this at the CrunchBang forum?
EDIT: Ah yes, it was in unia's signature and attributed to Carlos Torres. Still a good quote though.

imho, i could rename the current repo (e.g. fortune-mod-bl-cb) and continue letting it grow.
PS:
is it possible to let other users contribute directly to the (any, really) git repo, in a way that i have to approve them only the first time, after which they can continue contributing freely?

ok, revamped.
i have not added any cookies from this thread, yet, and only one or two more from #! forums.
i wrote a script that makes the files and optionally installs them.
pretty-please, answer me soon as per previous post.
personally, i'd like to go ahead with the new combined bl-cb fortunes. 8)

]should we make a seperate forune-mod-bunsenlabs package?
I guess it's up to you as the maintainer to decide, where you want to go with the CB fortune. I'd vote for separate packs, because CrunchBang forum was another time, another place in cyberspace.
---
pvsage, I suppose you are thinking about a quote that hase been going around at least in Arch and CB forums inside Unias's signature: "If you can't sit by a cozy fire with your code in hand enjoying its simplicity and clarity, it ne"eds more work. --Carlos Torres"
---
edit:
personally, i'd like to go ahead with the new combined bl-cb fortunes.
Go ahead, ohnonot, it's the same congregation after all.

I mean, as a kid/teen growing up, how the hell was I supposed to get into the mood for learning with a punyhamsterfuckin Bunsen burner compared to something like, say, a Cosworth V8 or something?!!

Wow, /mua being quoted
From arch vs debian thread:
Arch Linux has a prettier website. Apart from that they're the same.

i added a few more cookies; not much, still each and every input is appreciated (anybody still visit crunchbang.org/forums?).
check it out - i renamed it to fortune-mod-cbbl (the link to the old name still works - the repo is the same, one can rename repos on github).

Bummer - that link doesn't work ... but I remember saying it.
It's a misquote of the original found here
... and quoted here for convenience:
hehehehehe ... as an old dearly departed friend use to say:
Linda Davis said:
I don't make typos! The keys move around on the keyboard to confuse me!
She's the same lady that gave me:
My forgetter is getting better!
And over the past twenty or so years since she passed away, I have adopted them, because they fit me soooooo well!
EDIT: Maybe this can be added to the next ISO? I'm a noob, not sure if it's possible.

When debian say "older machines" they mean "ancient".
The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.
