A Carolina anole (aka green anole), it can change color from green to brown.

Not cheery facts...

Harder and harder to find here in Florida due to the invasive Bahamian anole (aka brown anole), which changes color from douchebag to asshole.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

I have a lot of Carolina anoles in central Alabama. Sometimes in the hot summer, I will see a dozen or so of them on my patio.

Weird story: One afternoon a couple of years ago, I was sitting in a chair, reading a book next to our outdoor fire pit. I saw an anole on top of the fire pit wall. It stayed a while, and for some reason, I started singing to it. It looked at me and, after a minute or so, jumped over onto my foot. I kept singing, and it kept watching me. I felt like it was listening to my song.

Taylor Creek where it meets the Indian River, Ft. Pierce, Florida. If you zoom in, those are birds in the tree, probably egrets.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

I have an amazing water lily shot I'll have to find.

I lounged for 2 hours on my "private beach" at 320 S Indian River Dr, Fort Pierce, a mile from my apartment (public kayak launch behind the parking lot at the Episcopalian school). White sand, I brought a chair.
https://www.google.com/maps/place/320+S … FQAw%3D%3D

Zoom out on that map, pretty cool.

qGLVNP1i_t.jpg JvWpIgjT_t.jpg Q0tTEEjT_t.jpg 6Rjm6c9S_t.jpg

The Indian River Lagoon. That's Hutchinson Island South in the first pick, and Europe and Africa beyond that. Some water droplets hit me from a mile away in the third pic. Those first two thumbnails look great lined up like that.

There's one pine tree there for shade. I shared it with a father and daughter for an hour, then an hour all to myself. I built her a drip-sand castle which she had fun flattening with her toy shovel. She then started filling in the water hole, I think she was trying to make it all look like beach again.

Ignore the angle, the beach just slopes hard south here in Florida. tongue

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

2024, Savannas Preserve State Park, water lilies. Not flowering, still amazing.

That third pic, it's not even edited (none of them are). I like that one, I'm curious how the right edge stayed in focus but the left edge and middle are blurred. The blurred pads are slightly underwater, I suppose.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

I have to say, living somewhere and not checking out public parks is like living in Manhattan and never going to the Statue of Liberty. Something like 80% never visit. I'm on a bicycle, but you can drive there, too.

To Savannas, that is, it's a ferry ride to Liberty Island and they don't take cars. I'm not sure if they'll let you take a bicycle, but probably.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

The latest version of the now year-old BunsenCycle, in single-speed mode (freewheel, the cog on the other side of the back tire is fixed).

8UxcJZEd_t.jpg

Mr. Fox: But this one works just fine.

Bruce Wayne: Does it come in black?

Mr: Fox: Best I can do is metallic grey.

According to my landlord, that fire extinguisher was inspected just last week. The grey thing on the wall is an unused garden hose coil thingy, you can see a spigot below it. The blue thing with the white tube is the shutoff valve.

The whole pic is weird, the thick black thing behind the brake cable is the left break lever, but the entire left side of the handlebar and grip are hidden. You can see from the rock kickstand that the bike is several feet away from the wall, but the lighting is so flat and with the hose-caddy shadow there, it looks like the handlebar is leaning against it.

^^@hhh, thank you for the beautiful pictures of your homeland.
Judging by your bike, you are a big and strong person. As an old person, I can no longer do this without power translation. Although... there are no mountains where you live.  big_smile
