Happy Birthday Freddie, he would have been 77 years old today

Yes. I remember the day after he died, going into a pub (bar for Americans) at lunchtime and putting this song on the jukebox;

@Colonel Panic, ohh man what an awesome selection. I haven't thought of that band in years!

Here's another one... I Don't Like Mondays -Boomtown Rats

Unfortunately, written in response to one of my Country's psychopathic proclivities of school violence. When will the madness ever stop?

Cream - Badge, live at the Albert Hall in 2005. Have to admit I prefer the studio version although this is still good;

Edit: just listened to the rest of Cream's "Goodbye" album. Really excellent musicianship even if some the tracks went on a bit ("I'm So Glad" especially). I much prefer Clapton from this era to his later "Slowhand" days.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ Do you like it? I've only heard one tune, the first single I think, and it was pretty "meh". I do love Gilmour, though.

@ Zepher, I hate REM. tongue Except for two tunes, which are almost the same, Orange Crush and I Am. Don't play Stand around me, I'll break your stereo! One of the dumbest songs ever, IMO.

End Of the World... bad memories of when a radio station in Boston, MA, played that song for 24 hours leading up to the Y2K freakout date. Blah, yuk, gag, hate that song.

Just my tastes, not shaming anyone for their taste in pop.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

big_smile , Jeebus Cripes it's just a tune @hhh, tell us how you really feel... lol Actually released in '87, had nothing at all to do with the turn of the century. I realize and agree it was overly played then but no connection. R.E.M. was an alternative band, not pop.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

@PackRat, Yeah David Gilmour has always been one of my favorite guitarists. Watched one of his newest tunes with either his Daughter or Granddaughter. Very different for him but it was good. He's 78 years old man and still going. Carry on...

Oh, please, I'm using pop as a catch-all. Tomato/tomato. When you're signed to a major record label like Warner Brothers... Alternative pop? Grunge pop (Nirvana/Geffen)? Metal pop (Metallica/Elektra/Warner Bros)?

Hell, The Specials got signed with Virgin, The Clash were eventually signed by Sony, and The Sex Pistols were on EMI, A&M, Virgin, Universal and Warner Bros.

The Talking Heads started with Psycho Killer, but there's not much alternative in Burning Down the House, less in Naive Melody, and none in And She Was.

Don't even get me started on the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Pop = Popular Music. That's how I interpret it.

RE: Chilli Peppers.....also not a fan.

KIbvd0rF_t.jpg

I place them in the same basket as U2 and The Arctic Monkeys. They are infinitely irritating.  Sure, fantastic musicians and incredibly successful, but their music is ... indescribably awful.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ U2 War is a great album. I Will Follow, from their debut album Boy, is still a favorite song of mine, even though I mostly hate bell sounds in rock. They were good up to Joshua Tree IMO. RHCP were freaking great at the beginning, from Freaky Styley to Blood Sugar Sex Magik. They went from doing heroin and rocking to singing about heroin and sucking.

I know, my opinion is like an asshole... everyone has one and it stinks.

Wait, so does the gun split the bullet into four pieces and kill the quartet, or... ?

It's magic. That's all I will say. Too much knowledge of the RHCP Eliminator is bad for your health.

It's pretty good. Gilmour's voice is really showing his age though. I like his daughter's voice. She probably could have fronted the whole album. I hope they have something like that in the works.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ He's 78. Our heroes are very old now. I'll check the album out, I do love Gilmour. Pink Floyd post-Waters '86 Providence Civic Center, best show I've ever been to. Peter Gabriel at Foxboro for the So tour around the same time would be number 2.
