[GUESS NOT] Do an early alpha iso?

I'm going to be away for ~3 weeks starting in mid-May. I can log in to the forums with my cellphone, but won't be able to do any coding during that period. Debian look likely to release Bookworm on 10th June, just around when I get back.

I was wondering if we should release an early alpha build of the iso, so people can play with it over that period and we can collect feedback before moving on to beta, RC and Boron release?

I've just posted a list of tasks, but none of them are release-stoppers IMO, and I could just do an iso build in early May using the packages as they are at that time. One thing that should be in usable condition, though, is the desktop appearance. Shall we provisionally use the Yaru-blue theme and icons, with that blue-flower wallpaper?

What do you all think?

Re: [GUESS NOT] Do an early alpha iso?

Folks, I only have a few days left before I have to be away from the computer for nearly a month.

I could try a build using the wallpaper and Yaru GTK theme @hhh posted here:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 90#p127390
possibly using the recoloured Papirus icons I posted here:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 53#p127453

And can I have the conky and tint2 configs?

If there isn't time to do that, then the alpha iso will go out in mid-June.

Sorry for the absence, John, hope I'm catching you before you're away from keyboard. Which configs?

Re: [GUESS NOT] Do an early alpha iso?

^Well, the configs you'd like to use in the chosen desktop appearance. smile
But I was referring to this: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 90#p127390
The vertical tint2 and conky time in top left, but it's your choice.

But I don't think a May iso is going to happen. I've only got two more days and while most of the BL packages can just be picked up as they are, the new graphics configs would have to go in, and more than that, there's a customised debian-installer sub-package that will need to be upgraded for Bookworm, meaning I have to check if the tweaks I put in are still necessary or not, rebuild...

Tomorrow I have an appointment for a booster Covid shot (coupons just arrived on Friday) and Tuesday have to make sure the garden plants are safe for three weeks, so I don't think there's going to be time for iso work.

And I'd love to fix that forum registration issue before going if at all possible - think I should give that priority.

The RSS feed too of course. neutral

So I guess a June alpha iso is the best we can hope for now. Boron is looking pretty solid in general, so with luck it might not take too long to go from alpha to official release.

Re: [GUESS NOT] Do an early alpha iso?

All good, Bookworm isn't expected to come out before June 12. If we get something out a month or two after, that's OK.
