BunsenLabs Reviews

If you see a review of BL you'd like to share, feel free to link to it here!

Here's a pod-cast from a site called the Sunday Morning Linux Review that devotes the first 25 minutes to a review of our RC1...
http://smlr.us/?p=4833

No need to inform them that BunsenLabs is a play on Dr. Bunsen or that the right-click menu doesn't auto-update, I've already left a comment that's awaiting review. I don't know why she thought Flash wasn't activated OOTB but no biggie.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Hey, I searched around here but couldn't find too many mentions of reviews of BL. So, if this one was already mentioned, apologies..
Anyway, BL is definitely getting noticed. Here's another positive review I came across:
http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/82837.html?rss=1
There are also several good ones on youtube already.
Keep up the good work, mates!

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Hi dummie789 thanks for finding that!
Since we already have this thread for posting reviews I hope you don't mind me moving it here.

It's a shame the reviewer states that he CAN'T have more than two workspaces, and he can change the appearance quite easily if he doesn't like the monotone defaults. I guess he isn't too familiar with Openbox.

Positive on the whole though smile

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Yeah, an overall nice write up. Thanks dummie 789

Wish they'd have mentioned the awesome supportive forum we've got going on here and imo, BL isn't another continuation of #! but an improvement. Still, a very positive review.

It is estimated to be worth $ 48,600.00 with a daily income of $ 81.00.

What??

What?  Wait - what??

I take it this is based on daily traffic coupled with the assumptions that our forum has as much advertising as your typical single-subject blog and that our visitors aren't FOSS-savvy users with ad blockers.

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Remember back in the year 2000 when all those silicon valley tech start-ups went down?

Well, there are many, today, who still use algorithms that try and justify the Initial Price Offerings (IPO) for a new tech company start-up or enterprise.

This type of review is along that kind of reasoning. It is used by those who would be trying to secure venture capital to start their new business.

Let's be honest, Bunsenlabs is a relative newcomer. Assessment of all the hours spent coding and improving the existing code is valuable - we all see the benefits.

Although, they are trying to compare apples to oranges - and that is awkward to say the least.

Hi, there aren't any ads here, to be blocked by ad-block. But if there are some, I'll be glad to view them smile All for Bunsen and Bunsen for all  tongue

Re: BunsenLabs Reviews

Thank You!

....which gets at one of two points that all of the reviewers, thus far, either fail to grasp or, at best, gloss over.

To wit:

1) Bunsen Labs is very much not so much a lean, cleverly-crafted distro, but a community of citizens who are by design and action forming an intentional community of Linux users. Thus, the Unity "SAAS" design ethic has been yanked, righteously here. Thank God.

2) The fiendish simplicity of the right-click menu with the carefully placed links to key config files and such echos what is described above. That is, the quite able are bothering to apply energy give the rest of us schmoes a "hand up" and not a "hand out". And am I the only one who gets it?

Bunsen Labs is not "tough love", but craftily nudges one to be a better, more responsible bash, clang, crunch, and banger.

Maybe I should do a podcast....... <grin>
