Sure, I remember Howdy Doody and Andy Devine. I don't remember many details, though.
One of my best memories was when Burl Ives had a kids' show which, of course, was mainly based around music.

Oh yea, Burl Ives. Don't remember the kids show but I loved his singing. How can anyone not like "A Littlty Bitty Tear"?
Or the max: The original recording of Ghost Riders In The Sky ... and as a kid I use to say: "I don't like C&W" Yea! RIGHT!
And as vrkalak says: "the old cartoons" ... back in the day cartoons were "fun" and "funny"! In my humble opinion, they have lost that!

^ Yep.. 'Captain Kangaroo', The original 'Scooby Doo' ( With animated cameo appearances by stars like Vincent Price, Don Knotts and Phyllis Diller), 'H.R. Pufnstuf' and 'The Monkeys'.
Saturday mornings were trippin' !

Yeah, the old cartoons on Saturday morning were great. The cartoons today lack the animation and music of the old ones--the images/character move jerkily like robots. The stories are also wooden and humorless. Was it Andy Devine that used to show the old "Little Rascal" and "Laurel and Hardy" episodes? Of course, and then there were "The Three Stooges"....nyuk...nyuk...nyuk....

WOW! Talk about a morning of going back.... "Forward to the Past!" hey, if they can have "Back to the Future" ...
Timeline: 1950 something, Saturday morning
... awake ... ... running to the living room
TV, on, select channel, plop down in front of it for cartoons - until 'they get up' and we hear:
"Turn the television off and get in here for your breakfast!."
And after breakfast, "It's a nice day, go out and play."
I'd come home "before dusk" - and dusk was a defined time! 'When the bottom of the sun hits the horizon", and I had better be home before then --- OR ELSE!
Sometimes I liked rainy days and winter!

Pull up a comphy chair, at our ages - living room floor just isn't the same:
Little Rascals' Greatest Hits - Part 1
Montage. The talkie films of Laurel and Hardy (Part 1) - 1929 -1930
The Three Stooges - 073 - I Can Hardly Wait (1943) ....nyuk...nyuk...nyuk.... back at ya! ]:D

I love this thread as it makes me feel quite young as I'm only 55
must admit some days though I look like death warmed up in the shaving mirror, maybe I should stop shaving?

Yeah, stop shaving. Then you can just look interestingly grizzled instead of deathly

I stopped shaving in 91, although I had a moustache since ±1982
I do trim my neck though and keep my beard short, too hot/humid in the summer here for a long one!

I shaved the last time, the day before I got out of the USAF in August 1970. Like Sector11, I trim my beard and mustache and shave my neck (and sometimes my head.

^ DAMN! You and I must have the same jeans genes! I shaved the morning I got up to got to the release section and sign on the dotted line for the transition from RCAF to Civilian.
About 5 years later, I was going for a coffee with a bunch of BBS SysOps and BBS users and thought, "Just for fun!" I shaved my beard and moustache off. Squeeky clean upper lip and chin!
Not one person noticed, or if they did no one said a word. A week later I ran into one of the ladies that was there for the coffee meet.
her: "OMG! You're growing a beard!"
me: "Hmmmm, if you ever get your hair done and I don't say anything you had better not get angry at me!"
her: "Why?"
me: "How long have I known you? Three years? Well I have always had a full beard and shaved it off last weekend before we all met for a coffee. YOU didn't notice!"
her: "Impossible I would have noticed!"
me: "Really!" as I pulled out my drivers licence and showed her.
her: "OOPS!" -->> :8

That's one thing I like about growing up, you finally either get the presents you want, or you get nothing at all, which is also better than having to pretend that you got what you wanted.

I wish this thread was called, "60 and Just Getting started" or "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet". I earned every one of these gray hairs, and proud of it.
