My youngest has the same screen.  That is a nice setup.

I have the same pen holder (from IKEA, I think). How do you get the warm, yellow light diffuse so well? Do you have ambient lighting installed?

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

yeah, that's a nice cheap screen. However, I'd like to have a bigger monitor. I was thinking about.. acquiring this one here but I do not know if it will look good with my openbox setup.

I made my own lamp using 16W leds with 2835 smd chips. It's a 1m (39,37in) long warm white led stripe. It's inside an aluminium profile and I used a piece of plastic panel from a broken tv as a light diffuser. The lamp is connected to a ATX power supply which has a dimmer switch I made, so it illuminates the desktop or gives a nice ambient light when needed.

@ututo, I've made a few attempts at theming that wall, none have passed my rigorous standards. tongue

It's just a matter of the right day and the right amount of beer, then I'll be theming.

As if the desktop wasn't cool enough; that's really awesome.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Drinking the cheap stuff tonight. America's oldest brewery, good stuff.

20190527_210249.md.jpg

I've added a really heavy brick to the speaker, it feels like solid concrete, not cinder block. The thing must way 7 or 8 pounds. I've also removed the plastic ashtray, as mass-loading the speaker caused it to vibrate terribly on the table.

BTW, that two and a half inch stereo-to-mono speaker, with the help of mass-loading and the pulseaudio sink, kicks ass now.

If your speakers don't weigh much, I'd recommend it. The weight can't be to tall, or you'll get sonic changes from the baffling. The 3" height added to my speaker probably doesn't have much effect, but the weight does. The speaker and lamp are sitting on a grill from another speaker, so it's (the stand's) feet are those little plastic nubs that click into the speaker, and the stand is flexible. It works.

I swapped my two desks, small one to the guest room and working desk to the library. More room for everyone.

I like the priorities. Spend the budget on that nice high-speed copier (or whatever) next to the door and just use a box for the monitor stand.

DOES NOT COMPUTE!  It is too clean!  Like it is in a store window.

This is mine - NOT!  But I wish.

Gotta clean up my desk first!

Talking about clean. These days, one desk is just not big enough,

so I have to occupy dining table

and spread stuff on the floor.

Almost in order. I need more than just velcro cable ties.

Freshly tidied.

3000k output lamps do wonders for colours.

My Grandfather built this desk.  Sitting at it reminds me of happy times as a kid spending time with my Grandparents who I was very close to.

@Sector11,

@nore,
wonderful! You should think about expanding the house...
In my case, my wife is the only one holding me back on "expansion."  lol

@Dobbie03,
very clean workplace!
I am also impressed by the quality work of your grandfather. Top!   smile

Thanks man, he was a master at his craft and a perfectionist.

Every year he would sand down and re-varnish all the doors in the house. I remember as a kid watching him finish varnishing a door, he got down so he could look along it to make sure the finish was perfect.  It had in one of the corners a little hair that must have floated in.  He sanded the whole thing and started again.  You would never, ever would have even noticed.  Grandad did big_smile

I miss him.

Re: Post your actual desk(top)!

Betting you heard "Measure twice cut once, son." more than once in your life eh.

Desk 100% looks like it'll outlive you. Don't make them like that any more (for less than a thousand bucks).

Just a few times smile  I also heard "just because you can't see it doesn't mean it can't look perfect too" a fair few times.

The desk is in perfect condition.  It will no doubt out live me.  Its all ready twice my age big_smile
