Re: What are you listening to right now?

Sorry for the upcoming post-spam, but it's my day off and I feel lazy. Posting these as I listen to them through the day.

"Warm Up" is actually the first track, Badanerie was 2. Source material for Track 3 is Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet, Dance of the Knights.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Skipping ahead one, Track 5 is named "Sarabande Dub". There are dozens upon dozens of Sarabandes, that melody is not ringing a bell. Help? Same with Track 6, "Nocturne Dub". That one sounds vaguely familiar. Chopin?

Track 4 is genius (best track of the album), and whoever put together this little 2001: A Space Odyssey video is also. Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss, composed in 1896, inspired by the poem by Friedrich Nietzsche.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWF1glZWQa8

The full composition, also a bit of genius...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm really pissed that I can't name "Symphony 3", the melody is so familiar and I'm sure I've preformed this. I'm pretty sure it's not Beethoven or Mahler, and I don't think it's Brahms (is it Brahms?)

Next, In The Hall Of The Mountain King (music for the Henrik Ibsen play "Peer Gynt", composed by Edvard Grieg, made famous in the Disney film Fantasia, "The Sorceror's Apprentice")...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Wrapping it up, Carl Orff from Carmina Buranda (third or fourth-best track on the album After Also Sprach and Symphony 3 Dub, and maybe Mountain King, the clip is an edit from the film Excalibur)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXFSK0ogeg4

And Track 11, Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky, a piece of merde, guano, horse manure, dung, poo-poo ka-ka...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S76CGGPqI3s

I flipping hate Tchaikovsky, he's the majority of the reason why I quit my 25+ year career as a classical violinist and violist. I never want to play that boring dreck again, nor work with those weird, closet-case, symphony musicians. Screw that, life's too short and I want to have fun.

The Nutcracker cracked my nuts. That album needs electric fiddle, and I am that fiddler.

Great site, that. Thanks for sharing. Just what I've been in the mood for lately. Was just listening to one of their compatriots before seeing your post, as a matter of fact; https://sumacdub.bandcamp.com/album/le-jardin-de-lucy

That was earlier. Still on the French(ish) vibe, but I've gone full cheese now;

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Lol, I have to post this, even if it might be crap ( it isn't). My next pick was 'Todd Rundgren live' and it came up with this Japanese concert. The opening music is Vangelis from the opening of Blade Runner, with young Asian men shoving through a subway turnstile. Nearly Human, 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgNSwUmio_s

That is one well rehearsed 11-piece band. All because of an old man with a bad dye-job, questionable attire and massive amounts of drive and talent.

Us venerables remember (that's right, I just used a verb as a noun), We Gotta Get You A Woman was a hit, Billboard Top 40...

Rundgren was 22 years old.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ A classic. I saw The Dead over a dozen times. The best was at the Miami Heat Arena when Jerry had recovered from his coma, I've never heard an electric guitar as electric as that. Every note actually crackled with electricity. The highlight of that show was Hell In A Bucket. If I'm going to Hell in a bucket, at least I'm enjoying the ride. I think that's a Phil Lesh tune, the bassist.

The best shows I saw, though, were at SPAC in the mid-eighties. They played Fire and Rain in '85, I'm guessing, and it started to gently rain as a lightning storm approached. It was jaw-dropping out there on the lawn on our blanket.

Rock/classical fusion from 1976, the man who mixed Dark Side, Alan Parsons with The Tell-Tale Heart from Tales of Mystery and Imagination...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9qcplu44Ic

The rock part is meh, the classical part has haunted me over the years, it's so beautiful. The production is amazing, of course.
