webkit2gtk has been getting updated in stretch-backports. 

You may also be able to get the Falkon appimage to run, which has an internal Qt webkit to avoid the aged version in Stretch.

fwiw, we had a very similar, more recent thread, i guess i thought this is that.

HoaS: isn't it part of chrom/e/ium's security model that each tab is opened in a new process?
