when pausing in succession VLC video crash

Does this happen to others.

hitting space, or whatever key you assign to "pause"

a few taps and the program is over.

other media players do not have this issue.

maybe not exactly, but I have seen many, many threads about VLC being problematic on debian-based distributions.

We've used vlc as the default media player because it's what CrunchBang used, and because in general it "just works".

That said, I don't think anyone will argue that mpv is a superior player, even though it does have a very minimal interface.

Another option among many, if you really want GUI settings, is smplayer. I've used it before and it seems very stable.

smplayer is a front-end, the backend can be mpv or mplayer (possibly more options).
so, it combines "user-friendliness" with the superior technology of mpv!
