Top Gear jumped the shark quite some time ago.

The last few series have been just awful, IMO.

Not for me. Their antics can get quite tiresome sometimes, especially during their road trips (oh, look, they're sabotaging James' car), but when they get that combo of cinematography, music, comedy and an awesome automobile together...

Come on, you're not going to watch the Le Ferarri/McLaren/Porsche showdown?

It's not for everyone and their humor is obviously rehearsed. Even still, we find it a welcomed escape from all the other noxious crap on tv.

I've recently been enjoying a charming miniseries called "A Great Welsh Adventure with Griff Rhys-Jones". As an American with Welsh roots several generations back, I'm finding the series surprisingly relatable.

Friends is one of my all-time favorite tv series. I also enjoyed watching:

it is rare that the producers care to create some closure, some ending to the story, even though a second season is already in the makings. hat off!

tonight i will watch the last episode of season 1 of the blacklist.
i'm extremely impressed, the storyline is so twisted!
the actual blacklist that gave the series its name provides only a loose framework, there's so much more beyond.
i'd love to say more, but i don't know how without making it a spoiler.
if you like detective/crime series, watch it.

My favorite Flash animated series has an episode coming up in a week featuring Lena Hall. (Spoiler alert: Her character's an ungulate. ) Been eagerly anticipating this episode since an animatic was featured at San Diego Comic Con; the wait has been deliciously excruciating, especially considering all that's been leaked about the episode so far is the animatic and "Lena Hall". (Nice song in the animatic; I have to admit I don't care much for her work with The Deafening, but I think she sounds great with a piano and orchestra. Still baffled how they play those instruments with hooves though.)

Friday morning the day before the episode and still no teasers. Hasbro/Studio B hasn't been this "hush-hush" about an episode since the one with Weird Al; must be because of the celebrity guest star.

EDIT: Oh hay, there's a preview clip now. Heavy dance-pop song, big false eyelashes, self-demonstrating lyrics about "glitz and glam" and "spectacle". Considering this, the animatic from SDCC, and the press release from a few weeks ago, it's fairly easy to see the shape of the plot from here.

i'd like to take a moment to publicly wallow in self-loathing.

time and again i notice that a tv show is actually designed to be captivating, while the solid ground of quality story telling and movie making is slowly being pulled out from under you (for economical reasons i guess).
this might leave one in a state of still being captivated, failing to notice that the show has gone to shit during the last few episodes.

i had this experience really badly with the 2nd season of the blacklist.
i stopped watching it about halfway through, it had really gone to the dogs.
but what was worse, i couldn't understand anymore why i liked it in the first place, or whether season 1 was really better or i just fell for the captivating bit.

i felt very similarly about once upon a time.

both shows i have praised in this very thread. :8

it must have something to do with production techniques and marketing mechanisms: you get one season to catch as many junkies as possible, after that you're scot free and can basically produce and sell any old shit you like.

@ ohnonot ^ OH yea ... been there done that and could not agree more.

Sometimes I don't even make it it the end of the season; "Zoo" had great hopes ... by the 5th week it was history ... SFX right out of the 70's, surprised I lasted that long.

Then the one with the 'tattooed lady' who came out of a duffel bag in the middle of times square ... another that was not watched after 3rd or 4th week.

Blacklist lasted into or maybe the end of Season 2 but that's it. Saw only one episode of One Apon A Time.

maybe i'd have given up on once upon a time earlier, if it wasn't for this one. :8

anyhoo, without getting too enthusiastic about it, i would like to direct your attention towards Sleeper Cell.
i'm not even so sure if it's a very good show, but it has one quality: it strives to show that there's a difference between being a muslim and being a terrorist. it shows "good muslims" and white american islamistic terrorists.
it shows that terrorists are human beings, and even the term terrorist isn't always so clear.

a very important topic for post-9/11 tv entertainment.

Sleeper Cell - Never heard of it ... don't think it ever showed here. Looks interesting ...

I don't see Muslim, or Islamic in that definition. But I can think of a few western "organizations", for the sake of a word, that it fits quite nicely. Condemning a person because they are green, orange, square, oblong (so as not to offend) without knowing them is just wrong!

hey, this was actually really good.
the storytelling is much more sophisticated than in most series of this type, the characters are interesting and unusual.
i could do without the gore, but it seems to be pretty much standard these days... and they somehow manage to make it almost beautiful...

i also very much appreciated that the makers bothered to put some sort of ending to the second season.
yes, an open ending, but strong enough to turn away with a sense of accomplishment.

Just finished watching series one and two of "the affair"
Very well written and some good twists to keep you guessing.
Hope they do a third series.
Now enjoying "curb your enthusiasm" staring the guy who wrote Seinfeld. Its good but nothing beats
Seinfeld for me.

but i never much cared for the whole concept of Q challenging the whole human race, and not his character either.

^ Q was definitely a base breaker; you either love him or hate him. Probably even more divisive than Wesley.
