Downloading now, will be installing tonight. I like that the archlabs teams has dumped calamares, i really dont like that installer. Congrats Dobbie and the archlabs team.

Yeah we wanted something a little more BL-esque if you know what I mean. Calamares was the choice installer of a former member.

Woah, missed this. Really nice/slick looking website Dobbie03. Just curious what you went with instead of Calamares ... d-i/Debian installer ? Also just out of curious, what was wrong with Calamares, am sure I've used it a time or two, can't remember but would be interested in what perceived short-comings the thing has.

Also thumbs up on the AL team roster, pretty much everybody mentions a love of beer or other spirits and all strongly hint at a gnu/Linux and open source addiction (plus family stuff), so must be good people.
Never trust anyone who doesn't like gnu/Linux and intoxicants !

Bliz, for me it failed far too many times on multiple distros, worked a handfull of times as well. Id much rather the abif installer over calamares myself as i have had a bad experience with it. Most will remember Carl Duff, this was/is his installer he created if i am not mistaken. I remember using it on pacbang.

Thanks Steve, had never even heard of that installer(Abif). Will google up on it, have looked over Calamares. Honestly not even sure I've ever used it, when was briefly dorking around with Linux bbq think the thing was still not to the point that Machinebacon was even using it yet at the time but Bbq did endorse it. So I may've never even installed anything with it.

By failed, you mean due to it being buggy etc and just again out of curiosity was this anything recent ? Also wonder if it may've been the fault of whoever config'ed or perhaps misconfig'ed it in xyz-distro you'd been trying out. Of course that's strictly a gross assumption. Only saying there are several quality distro's listed on the Calamares site, they are claiming use it as default installer.

Long winded and clueless way of saying, perhaps the people employing, rather than the software itself ? At least a possibility. I like the idea behind the thing, the whole distro agnostic, extensible installer idea, though really don't know overall. Anyway Archlabs looks cool and apologize for the preceding off-topicness Dobbie.

fond memories of using calamares were the program just crashing mid install, im sure there was probably more going on than calamres just failing but as a newbie after 3 tries one tends to dislike something that does not bring any joy. Ive also had it hang for 30 minutes install complete and then the system came out with a kernel panic, ive also had it fail on grub install after downloading a lot of data.

Can understand the once bitten, twice shy thing. These were different times/distro's ? Am not necessarily a pro-calamares person. Just trying to get a clear idea of your experiences. Not sure how/if it's made any progress. Not interested enough to go through a buncha junk to see what the outcome would be ( + or -) with different distro's/scanario's. Still occasionally think about coming out with a distro and calamares was looked over as a possible installer candidate. Honestly though seriously doubt that'll ever happen. Am happy as an enduser and hands full dorking with gnu/Nix as that anyway, have no business messing around in the Nixsphere in any greater capacity me thinks.

Awesome work with the new release, trying it out now in QEMU and it seems very polished indeed, and without bloat too — a rare combination

Hi Gents, thanks for the kind words.

In regards to ABIF, we wanted a similar installer to the BL one, a nod to our roots. Nate gave the code a makeover, and in my opinion, ABIF is more reliable than it ever has been. Yes it involves a little more brain power to do an install but we save some space on the ISO and we are using a utility we would prefer to use. Like I said Calamares was a decision a former member made on their own.....glad to be rid of it.

Calamares was a tad more unreliable than we liked too.

Also, as well as haveing great taste in alcohol and family times, we all love our Metal. Pretty much all of us are Metalheads. \m/

Hm, this looks interesting. I've got an Antergos installation (with only Openbox) that I've been using since March, and also a much older Arch installation (with Xfce, LXDE, and Openbox). Antergos is actually very nice but I removed some packages because even though I went with only Openbox at installation time, it still installed with too much stuff for my tastes; very tempted to replace it with ArchLabs 2017.12. Might have to check this out!

ArchLabs is pretty minimal, and with the AL-Hello script you can add the applications you want post-install.

Just been flicking through the current issue of Linux Format magazine (no. 232) in my local newsagent and they have a very favourable review of ArchLabs — it scores 9/10

They mention Calamares so I think it was the initial release of Minimo.

It was also slightly thrilling to see the BunsenLabs name in print
