^ That's just for the default GNOME desktop, upstream moved away from the X server quite a while ago.
It doesn't affect XFCE, LXDE or Cinnamon (or BunsenLabs) directly.

I'm finding this little blighter a bit tricky to package because it has a web of interconnected dependencies and the configure script seems to be using a syntax that is not compatible with the stretch version of automake
To fix this I will have to build a custom .deb properly in my Debian system and drop the files from that into my openSUSE Build Service repository (at the moment I'm just dragging&dropping the files from the Mint servers to my OBS site using my OpenBSD box).
Anyway, I've managed to build the basic Xplayer package for BunsenLabs Hydrogen/Deuterium & Debian jessie (plus a few *buntu ones as well):
https://software.opensuse.org//download … ge=xplayer
I could add the plugins later, I think.
Hmmm--I did xviewer and xreader a little while back for jessie-based MX 16, and Tim just ported them up to MX 17, just before evacuating his Florida home for Irma, so the other apps shouldn't be a problem. There's an xapps PPA where I got the sources.

^ Fantastic, thank you very much — I had lost momentum with that side project but I'm still very much interested in the principle 8)

Debian's first "Buster" live image has come out:

Of course this is still very experimental.

I can tell you there is still a number of issues with some python packages at the moment.

That is so awesome, they even have a dedicated "patches" page:
https://sources.debian.org/patches/
I can now consider incorporating Debian's mksh patches into my Arch mksh-static package 8)
EDIT: ha! They fixed $KSH_VERSION, I was wondering about that

^Speaking of patches, they know all about our activities: http://deriv.debian.net/BunsenLabs/
For example: https://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Integration#Patches
leading to, eg: http://deriv.debian.net/BunsenLabs/patches/o/obmenu/

Oh, that's cool. Does this mean they may merge our fixes upstream into debian testing?
I think I just may have found a lower friction way to suggest changes in debian

^Unlikely, I'd say. This is cool, but it's autogenerated by scripts.
Any real changes to Debian packages have to go through the Usual Channels™.

The next version of firefox-esr will be based on the current Nightly release, which is v59, and this requires cargo to build correctly.
It's not clear (to me) what will happen when v59 transitions to ESR status but it may be that FF is dropped, just like Chromium has just been dropped from jessie.
Hopefully, Debian will instead choose to add cargo to stretch, this is against policy but so was switching to firefox-esr during the lifetime of the stable release (jessie, in that case) so fingers crossed, eh?

The next version of firefox-esr... requires cargo to build correctly.
Cargo is available in Buster. Would Fx ESR be changed during the lifetime of Stretch?
Even if it was, would that need cargo to be available in the Stretch repo, if it's only a build requirement?

We were discussing unattended-upgrades a while ago.
It now looks as if there's a good chance the package will be installed and security upgrades enabled by default in Debian (Buster?). Not everyone agrees though: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=875858

Yes, I would think so — Debian went from Iceweasel v45 (RIP) to firefox-esr v52 during the jessie release.
Even if it was, would that need cargo to be available in the Stretch repo, if it's only a build requirement?
Perhaps not, let us hope that is the case.
security upgrades enabled by default in Debian
For Debian stretch, the GNOME desktop option already automatically installs and enables unattended-upgrades

Shouldn’t BL “connected” directly to Debian instead of Ubuntu?!

Yeah, it should. Btw, here is URL to mentioned chart since it doesn't load properly via code you used.

But Crunchbang was originally Ubuntu based. It later switched to Debian and this chart does not seem set up to handle these kinds of details.

Debian support for UEFI Secure Boot is coming on. Fingers crossed for Buster.

Now UEFI secure boot support is in live-build 1:20180328. (Buster already ships 1:20180618.)
It will be interesting to try building an experimental Buster/Lithium iso (with standard BL helium packages) just to see how hard it is to get secure boot working.
