^ That's just for the default GNOME desktop, upstream moved away from the X server quite a while ago.

It doesn't affect XFCE, LXDE or Cinnamon (or BunsenLabs) directly.

Hmmm--I did xviewer and xreader a little while back for jessie-based MX 16, and Tim just ported them up to MX 17, just before evacuating his Florida home for Irma, so the other apps shouldn't be a problem. There's an xapps PPA where I got the sources.

The next version of firefox-esr will be based on the current Nightly release, which is v59, and this requires cargo to build correctly.

It's not clear (to me) what will happen when v59 transitions to ESR status but it may be that FF is dropped, just like Chromium has just been dropped from jessie.

Hopefully, Debian will instead choose to add cargo to stretch, this is against policy but so was switching to firefox-esr during the lifetime of the stable release (jessie, in that case) so fingers crossed, eh?

Cargo is available in Buster. Would Fx ESR be changed during the lifetime of Stretch?

Even if it was, would that need cargo to be available in the Stretch repo, if it's only a build requirement?

We were discussing unattended-upgrades a while ago.
It now looks as if there's a good chance the package will be installed and security upgrades enabled by default in Debian (Buster?). Not everyone agrees though: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=875858

Yes, I would think so — Debian went from Iceweasel v45 (RIP) to firefox-esr v52 during the jessie release.

But Crunchbang was originally Ubuntu based. It later switched to Debian and this chart does not seem set up to handle these kinds of details.

Now UEFI secure boot support is in live-build 1:20180328. (Buster already ships 1:20180618.)

It will be interesting to try building an experimental Buster/Lithium iso (with standard BL helium packages) just to see how hard it is to get secure boot working.
