Video editing (Pitivi OpenShot Flowblade Kdenlive)

Hi,
I've installed Pitivi successfully on my BL install, but I get a "segmentation fault" at run time after two warnings :

Missing soft dependency:
- pycanberra not found on the system
-> active les notifications sonores lorsque le rendu est terminé
Missing soft dependency:
- GnomeDesktop not found on the system
-> file thumbnails provided by GNOME's thumbnailers

and also four Clutter-WARNINGs.
What should I try next ? I can't find Pycanberra on the distro. Hope I don't have to install the whole Gnome Desktop.
Pitivi seemed a good solution for video editing, after trying OpenShot for a while (which does not display sound streams contents).

How exactly did you do this?

Please post the exact command(s) used.

Can we also see the output of:

apt-cache policy

I used Synaptic for that. The repositories are http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian/ (main), http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ (contrib non-free main), and http://security.debian.org/ (non-free contrib main).

Please try running pitivi from a terminal and then after it crashes post any errors here in full, thanks.

It may be worth trying the RAM tester that we have on our ISO image and perhaps SMARTCTL as well (for your hard drive), it is very unusual for a Debian oldstable package to fail catastrophically.

Re: Video editing (Pitivi OpenShot Flowblade Kdenlive)

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo … bug=778520

The problem is fixed is v0.94-2 but jessie is on 0.93-4.2 sad

You could try to backport the stretch version yourself, that may work:

https://wiki.debian.org/SimpleBackportCreation

Warning: adding stretch, buster or sid repositories to your system will break it.

I only post the end of the output which contains the error reports :

Where can I find the RAM tester ? I guess I need the ISO image DVD I burnt.

(edit) I've just seen your latest post, I need some more time to investigate. Thanks a lot !

Re: Video editing (Pitivi OpenShot Flowblade Kdenlive)

Pitivi did not work well in Jessie at all, to be quite honest. It was prone to frequent crashing. I was able to build one video with it by saving my work constantly. However, openshot ended up winning that round due to the fact that it was more stable than pitivi. I tested Pitivi in Stretch briefly. The crashing issues seemed to be better but I would not call it a thorough test.

clutter? canberra? sounds like this program is totally depending on gnome desktop (as was also mentioned in the error message)?

Re: Video editing (Pitivi OpenShot Flowblade Kdenlive)

Actually I had quite a good fit with OpenShot. Yet to perform accurate editing, one needs to "see" the sound as diagrams in the timeline. The actual release leads to too many trials and errors before you cut where you want.
So Pitivi seems not an option. Too bad !
(edit) Flowblade provides on-demand waveforms, "bare" but sufficient for spotting sound transitions. So far it looks robust. Subject closed !

What about Kdenlive? Anyone with good/bad experiences?

Re: Video editing (Pitivi OpenShot Flowblade Kdenlive)

Kdenlive was usefull the last time I tried (probably the most interesting of them all, haven't tested Flowblade yet). Resolve 14 provides a free linux version (Worth testing if you have a modern nvidia). It has a very decent video editor now.
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc … ciresolve/ (p.s. Seems to be only certified for Red-Hat base).

We don't really use [CLOSED] here and I'm sure the thread will be useful to others, would you mind removing the tag please?
