Sounds like now Microsoft is trying to get a full blown Linux distro to run within Windows and run Linux apps like a Windows one.
It's the future, I've tasted it:

Apparently some have managed to get the X server running from the Ubuntu userspace...

I think Pioneer is actually still within the Solar system: the Ooort Cloud goes out to 100,000AU and poor old Pioneer 10 is only at ~114AU, although that may be outside the termination shock (depending on the direction).

Forget KASLR, my OpenBSD-current box now builds each new kernel by compiling and linking in a non-deterministic order producing a randomised kernel that is unique to each machine.

Our immune systems work better when they are unique. Otherwise one
airline passenger from Singapore with a new flu could wipe out Europe
(they should fly to Washington instead). Our computers should be more immune.

I can imagine the conversation;
Theo de Raadt: We're so far ahead of the curve.
Henning Brauer: Yeah, we just don't know what to do with ourselves anymore.
Mike Larkin: F*** it! Let's randomize the friggin kernel!!

Being off topic, but isn't this topic off topic in the first place.
Trying to live only in linux console when I don't need to read a PDF or something. Framebuffer is still the console, right? Right? Surprisingly, the web is still very "hypermedia" even on links2 on graphics mode. Currently typing from it. ![]()
The world won't change for the better unless we trust people. Trust is vital in a peaceful world but that will never happen.

Oh yes, very much so.

That's what I call an inside joke.
"In 1974 Evans & Sutherland released the first commercial framebuffer, costing about $15,000. It was capable of producing resolutions of up to 512 by 512 pixels in 8-bit grayscale, and became a boon for graphics researchers who did not have the resources to build their own framebuffer."
I suspected that Links2 is a console based browser (like lynx), but had to searx for it in order to be sure.

mpv is caught up in a transition to a LGPL core, and in the process, lots of recent development involved requesting agreement of original authors who contributed under the GPL to relicense files to LGPL.
Due to disagreements and (or) difficulties in reaching everybody, heaps of code and options are getting removed at the moment, e.g. this monster commit. While it's due to commercial interests and the project is largely driven by developer time paid for by an interested company, this crippling of such a nice and wholesome piece of software is a bit disheartening.
[...] player/audio.c still does not compile. We'll have to redo audio filtering. Once that is done, we can probably actually provide an actual LGPL configure switch. [...] anders has mostly disagreed with the LGPL relicensing. Does not want libaf to become LGPL, but made some concessions. In particular, he granted us permission to relicense 4943e9c and 242aa6e. We also consider some of his changes remaining in mpv not relevant for copyright (such as 735de60 - we won't remove the this option completely). We will completely remove his other contributions, including the entire audio filter chain. For now, this stuff is marked as GPL only. The remaining question is how much code in player/audio.c (based on the former mplayer.c and dec_audio.c) is under his copyright. I made claims about this in a previous commit.Removing the entire audio filter chain
The reason I watch movies through mpv and not Netflix in Chrome is precisely because of that chain; I'm using it to make 5.1/7.1/whatever audio highly enjoyable on my head phones. So, I'll probably stop using newer mpv code from now on until the situation ameliorates.
What a waste of time and code.
Agreed, this is like taking an axe when just a scalpel may be needed.

yea, yea, semantics - but take it as a phrase "he is an at home user" - if you had a laptop, you could be in a coffee shop.
