First of all, have you checked that output devices aren't muted, and volume levels are high enough?
Maybe restart the sound with
sudo alsactl init
Post the output of
speaker-test -c0 -l1

For unmuting. A known common issue is to unmute via the icon in the trayarea on tint2 (the panel on top)
Have you done it from a terminal running alsamixer and unmuting channels with the "m" key?
Offline
I have unmute all and set then to 100%

Hi Gawin, are you using Volti to control volume? In our current setup that has been replaced by volumeicon, and the startup procedure for PulseAudio has been tweaked a little. This eliminates some sound muting issues users had.
After install, did you run the "welcome" script when it popped up?
If not, could you first, before changing anything else, please open a terminal, run
bl-welcome
and agree to have the audio changed, when prompted.
If you have already done that, did you see any error messages?
In either case, it's important to have all your packages up to date, so be sure to run
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Try:
sudo apt install mudita24 && mudita24
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/sound/mudita24
EDIT: that can be set as the default mixer for volumeicon by editing ~/.config/volumeicon/volumeicon and changing the onclick= line to mudita24
I think you may be able to do that with the right-click GUI as well.

According to the outputs posted, the card is detected and supported with the correct driver and the volume is indeed unmuted and non-zero — I have no idea why that isn't working for you
Are there any errors in `journalctl`? (They should show up in red)
Does the soundcard work with other (live) distributions?
You could try a newer kernel version from the jessie-backports repository, that may help if the device is very new.

Is the device in bold the one your speakers are attached to?
I have this problem all the time on my systems, the wrong card is set as default when the computer boots so there will be no sound.
I don't have BL installed at the moment so I don't know what application can be used to change the soundcard. If alsa-utils are installed, you can open a terminal use "alsamixer".
Select F6 to change your soundcard and see if you get sound; that usually works. Then the trick will be to get that card recognized as the default.
