If it helps, I had changed my desktop cabinet to a smaller custom case. It involved unplugging every component and changing the placements. Most components were unplugged for a couple of days from the other components. This is the first boot since reassembly and this opera error is happening.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

First boot since my redesign! The mobo, hdd, spms were all unplugged for about four days. As per my knowledge, it shouldn't be a problem, but just informing.

Opera was installed, I guess using the deb files and it's also being updated from the debian repositories. It was working fine. U dib;t see any other problem with any thing else. So far so good.

Re: [Reopened] Unable to open opera

If this error has nothing to do with my PC, I can post it in the opera forum!

Re: [Reopened] Unable to open opera

Would you care to just remove and try a reinstall of Opera?  I mean if it's the only issue you're having since you "redesign", try removing it, update and re install?

I tried it many times, too. But it never worked. When ever I start opera in termina, I get the same error. If I start opera through dmenu, I get nothing.

Re: [Reopened] Unable to open opera

FInally, I installed it using apt-get. And it's working (although it's a very old version 12.01). I am not sure why installing using deb didn't work. It never complained of any dependencies though. Any explanations will be helpful!

Re: [Reopened] Unable to open opera

When you say installed using 'deb' what do you mean? how exactly did you get and run it?

Hmm I suppose you could see if anything else that opera needs or brought with it, during the newer version could be failing to launch?

sudo apt-get -u -V install opera

sudo apt-get -u -V install opera

I meant downloading the latest deb file from Opera website and installing using the default package installer. The installer install Opera perfectly, however opening opera shows that error posted in my first post. I am sure this is how I had installed Opera earlier and it was all working fine.

If the download and install using apt-get, I am getting the 12.16.1860 opera version.

toor@linux:~$

I can't update it to the latest version by any means.

  1. Help>Check for updates shows no updates,

  2. apt-get upgrade doesn't really update opera even though I have added Opera to the sources list.

Erm...

https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw … ection=all

There is no opera package in the Debian (or BunsenLabs) repositories.

Does this link help:

https://wiki.debian.org/Opera

The error in the OP may have been caused by a faulty memory chip — you can try our experimental ISO image, this has a memtest included:

I'm loving the inclusion of mem-test in the iso...

I downloaded the iso and made the USB Key and did a mem test. No errors found and yet, after reboot, and installing latest Opera using the package installer, still shows the error.
