Re: Themes and Icons

I have updated my Bunsen-Greybird theme, the maximise icon now more closely matches the GTK3 version although the close.xbm is still too big (no antialiasing):

https://github.com/Head-on-a-Stick/conf … ird.tar.gz

This will only work in a stretch-based system because it uses that version of GTK3 as a base.

To install the theme, use:

wget https://github.com/Head-on-a-Stick/configs/blob/master/bunsen-greybird.tar.gz?raw=true -O bunsen-greybird.tar.gz
mkdir -p ~/.local/share/themes
tar xf bunsen-greybird.tar.gz -C ~/.local/share/themes
rm bunsen-greybird.tar.gz

Scrot with a GTK3 application (evince) for comparison:

2017-02-19-145223_1920x1080_scrot.th.png

Still not perfect, the GTK3 Greybird theme uses gradients on the borders whereas I prefer to keep the Openbox theme flat but it's certainly getting close, IMO.

^Looking good.

Now we have two options - patched Arc or patched Greybird.

Re: Themes and Icons

@hhh May I ask: In the post #14 above on the second picture - what kind of menu is it?

Btw that 20's deco wallpaper with the car is one of the coolest backgrounds I've ever seen. I noticed a "kaa" signature for the artist but I just cannot identify who created the picture.

Re: Themes and Icons

The menu is xfce4-appfinder, which is both a run dialog and an application finder. I run with...

xfce4-appfinder -c --disable-server

... and then hit my down-arrow if I want to view the "menu". See "man xfce4-appfinder".

I don't know where I found that wallpaper, but I agree that it's great artwork. maybe a Google image search will bring you to the artist (I'm about to leave the library).

Re: Themes and Icons

^Oh, I have appfinder too! big_smile   I just don't use it that often and with the theme here it is in a grey window, instead of black. At first glance I thought it's some kind of a menu... Thank you for the explanation though. That wallpaper is indeed great, it has a special retro atmosphere, I'll try a search.

That is the BL port of the original #! conky (CB-Right.conkyrc), and the font is "xftfont Sans-serif:size=10"

@damo, that looks beautiful. On the blue wallpaper, perfect!
Let's add it to the default choices for Helium.

^Well, in the default ...choices... at least. smile

Personally, I find that soft blue wallpaper quite congenial, and your bl-exit fits right in.

Phillip once approvingly quoted a reviewer who described #! as being "pleasantly boring". I take that to mean easy on the eye, but not in-your-face. Something that makes it easy to get your work done. I don't know if that categorically rules out any colour anywhere...

Re: Themes and Icons

Hmm, so I've never had the time or interest really in playing around with the graphical side of linux (I already have far too many questions just on the terminal side of things lol)  But I was curious as to rather anyone has any suggestions for a very cyberpunk theme for openbox gtk? I put to Blade Runner, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, the video game Snatcher, and the William Gibson books Neuromancer etc...  The themes and icons world I"m a bit ( a lot) unfamiliar with... Where do people normally find themes at? Github? Are themes, icons, etc, specific to specific Desktop managers? or window managers?  Does it matter if it's gtk or not?

Re: Themes and Icons

^ Have a look in the Help&Resources menu - there are links to theme resources wink  Also check out deviantart, there is lots of stuff there.

Openbox themes are specific to Openbox, obviously; gtk is used for gtk applications, which is mostly what you are likely to have. Note that many older themes will be broken for gtk3.

It took me a while to get this, but there are two themes at play at any one time. The openbox (or xfce4 window manager, or whatever) theme deals with the window frame, basically, ie the title bar, borders, and with openbox also the right-click menu. The GTK themes handle everything inside the window frame. So you have to choose a window manager theme and GTK theme that look nice together (often theme makers bundle them all in one tarball). Icons are something else again. You can use any icon theme together with any GTK theme.

I think. The graphics guys will hopefully correct anything there that's not quite right...

Re: Themes and Icons

^ Yes, that's correct (the Openbox theme also handles the Alt-Tab app switcher). In BunsenLabs, you can also theme the notifications and tint2 to match.

Re: Themes and Icons

Could someone please help me with an icon file:

If I'm not mistaken there is (was?)

/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/tint2.svg

Or is it

/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/taskbar.svg

i.e. -> no tint2.svg

Which file are we supposed to have?

Btw what is the default icon theme on #BĹ? I changed it too often and forgot it.

Re: Themes and Icons

The default is Faenza-Bunsen (or maybe Faenza-Dark-Bunsen), which has taskbar.svg.

The Tint2 source seems to use the same icon for tint2.svg: https://gitlab.com/o9000/tint2/blob/master/tint2.svg

Re: Themes and Icons

^Indeed, it's the same icon (there is also tint2conf.svg, which has a pencil added). Somehow I had an icon path from an early version with the name "tint2.svg" (there was no taskbar.svg) but now there is (only) taskbar.svg. Thank you for the clarification.

Could someone pls. confirm -  out of the box - the icon theme Faenza-Bunsen?

You can always check the github page for the current configurations:

https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-co … .gtkrc-2.0

https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-co … ttings.ini

EDIT: or look in /etc/skel in your own system.
