That offers the best desktop experience for GNU/Linux at the moment, IMO.

Also, to cut down on RAM usage in GNOME be sure to disable all the tracking & indexing features.

Nope im on X11.

I was actually reading about Wayland today and noticed that many people bash it so i didn't test it.

GNU/Linux is a moving target and the interweb gets crusty fast.

In my opinion, Wayland is fantastic right now and it will only get better, you can try out with a Fedora 25 live ISO image:
