that show went stale many years ago
Really? I can see being tired of any TV personality after a while, but I thought the things that the production crew did with music and cinematography in the last two seasons were extraordinary. I was dying to see that 3 way time trial...

Yes, exactly my point -- style over substance, that show has had nothing new to offer for quite some time.
And anyway, speaking as one of the people who have paid for all that expensive post-production w**k through my TV licence fee I'm actually pretty annoyed that they spend so much money on that nonsense when the BBC should be a bastion of quality output.

^ Glad you like it. The episode "Blood and Fire" actually provided the inspiration for my tongue-in-cheek proposal for a possible name for CrunchBang's successor.
When a link to the series was first posted at the CrunchBang forums, there was a bit of an uproar regarding piracy; that's why I felt it important to mention that the creators approved of the series existence. (I forgot to mention that the approval stipulated that STNV had to be distributed freely, a rare case of "digital piracy is advised by our lawyers".)

In the US, the question isn't how we survived the seventies. It is... How is it that the US had identified so many of our problems by then...fossil fuel dependency, lack of natural resource conservation, crumbling infrastructure, failing education system, tax loopholes/corporate greed, stagnant minimum wage, healthcare inequity, urban sprawl, etc... and now it's 40 years later and, essentially, not a goddamn thing has been done?

Same here... but everything is eclipsed by the bigness of hair (including chest hair), collars and bell bottoms. Discrediting the fashion faux pas far outstrips discrediting the manufactured energy crisis of the 70s.
We won't even discuss the magic flute from H.R Pufnstuf... What was Kroft smokin'?

Amazing, right? An all-out ban on the Flying V? They gave my campaign 12 billion dollars (appropriate that S. "Superpac" Colbert has that line)!

The magic flute and Mayor Puffin' Suff just made an appearance on Kroft's new kid show that my youngest is currently watching.
Ever see the episode of The Dating Game where the actress that played Witchy Poo was in constume - but not character - as the woman selecting a date; the look on the winner's face when he comes out on stage is classic.
