Need help making conky window bigger

Need help making conky window bigger

Hello,

I've found this really nice weather conky on this forum, but it is super tiny.
I would like to make it bigger, at least double or triple.
I've already tried to increase the

minimum_size 230 145 ## width, height
maximum_width 230 ## width, usually a good idea to equal minimum width

but it has no impact.

This is a screenshot to see how tiny it is.

This is my .conkyrc file

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

You probably are making the window bigger and do not realise it.  The border you see is part of the image: ragamatrix_weather_t.png

Change your 'border section' temporarily to see the border limits.

### Borders Section ########################################################
draw_borders yes ## Change no to yes here - temporarily
# Stippled borders?
stippled_borders 5 ## temporary
# border margins
border_inner_margin 10
border_outer_margin 0
# border width
border_width 2 ## temporary
# graph borders
draw_graph_borders no
##################################################### End Borders Secton ###

BTW: I can not see the image - I have no Google account.

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

@Sector11 will sort you out, but in the meantime try starting the conky in a terminal with

conky -c /path/to/conkyrc

This will show up errors, one of which is probably due to this line.

${image /media/5/Conky/images/ragamatrix_weather_t.png -p 6,5 -n}

Have you got all the necessary images?

A trick I do is change

own_window_transparent yes
to
own_window_transparent no

This shows the actual window size, and you should see that the minimum_size and maximum_width are having an effect. I think you will need to change the text formatting and positioning to fill the conky window.

EDIT: ninja'd by the ConkyMeister smile

Now, that I changed the window_transparency to no, I see that the window indeed changed but all info inside remained the same - text, images everything. If I change the size of the text say 12, it overlaps the images because the images remain the same.

How can I change the size of the images?

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

@jmak

Easiest way to change the size:  [Alt]+F2

mirage /path/to/the_image/ragamatrix_weather_t.png

in mirage: Edit » Resize (make sure you preserve the aspect ratio)
2016_04_26_21_01_06_Scrot11.jpg

Whatever you change the size to ... make these:

minimum_size 230 145 ## w|h
maximum_width 230 ## width

'at least' the size of the image - not smaller

I cannot find the "ragamatrix_weather_t.png" image. It is not in the "1b1_accuweather_images/Forecast_Images" folder!

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

Do you see the image in the conky?

As I said: I have no Google account so I can not see your image, they want me to "sign in" or "open an account" - that's not going to happen.

Try: http://postimg.org/  smile

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

Is it worth rewinding this thread and trying to solve the OP's original problem, if he posts the conkyrc? I suspect we had already solved it, but he hadn't followed the instructions.

Oh he fixed that - took the shortcut you posted: own_window_transparent no

damo!

This works fine, only it is too tiny.
I just need to make it bigger.

Re: Need help making conky window bigger

I only meant that you couldn't fix the transparency for your previous conky, so you are trying this one instead. It may be easy to sort the original one out, but I don't think you posted the whole conkyrc code.

^  OH "that conky"  ... yes, would be nice if jmak re-visited his earlier thread and posted the full conky there.  It could be useful if someone else has the same problem at a future date.

Sorry about that damo, I didn't catch what you meant.

The other one now, seems to work.
