That would be why then.

A netinstall with no boxes checked in tasksel is a satisfyingly minimal system  8)

D'oh!

Thanks damo

EDIT: From my BLVM:

empty@TheLab:~$ apt search polkit|grep installed
[...]
libpolkit-agent-1-0/stable,now 0.105-8 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libpolkit-backend-1-0/stable,now 0.105-8 amd64 [installed,automatic]
libpolkit-gobject-1-0/stable,now 0.105-8 amd64 [installed,automatic]

Do you have those HB?

Nope, doesn't look like it:

root@bunsen:~# apt search polkit |grep installed
WARNING: apt does not have a stable CLI interface yet. Use with caution in scripts.

Re: Sudo vs Polkits

Well that output was from a fresh, un-modified BL system so something's clearly gone wrong with your installation.

Does the bl-exit dialogue box work?

Re: Sudo vs Polkits

If I remember correctly, we added dbus calls for those systems not running systemd for bl-exit.

The big boys will know, but at least (in autostart)

## for authentication
/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

And there is on-going discussion here

Re: Sudo vs Polkits

Okay! So you all (there was never any doubt) are right.  On my BunsenLabs set up that I have on my personal computer (which is the more traditional B.L install) does include policykit-1.  This personal setup of mine runs openbox, with lightdm in an xserver env. So I suppose that during my install of the work laptop (the one without polkit and any X environment) caused a pretty funky, minimalistic version to be installed. Odd though I used the same exact disc for both, but for the laptop I just to go with a minimal install. No graphical env.  So I suppose policykit-1 sort of requires X then? Or at least a Desktop environment?

Re: Sudo vs Polkits

Not really, I am pretty sure it comes with the standard option, meaning you don't really need a DE or WM, just the standard additional tools installed. I don't think systemd depends on policykit-1 but they are for sure designed to work together. As @HoaS pointed out, it is not required outside of a multi-user environment but it can make some things nicer and more stream-lined in a WM or DE. I suppose for general computing it boils down to personal taste.

Not at all, no.

See my post about minimal netinstalls -- if you don't add it, it won't be there wink

EDIT: Although the reverse is true -- DEs list some form of polkit authentication agent as a dependency.

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Po … ion_agents
