At the end of the day, music is music. Everyone says it's mathematics, but it's true.

You can find that chord in Jazz, Brazilian music too. Jorge Ben:

RIP Altar of Plagues, one of the best things to come out of Ireland after Red Headed Irish women and Guinness.

I'm not a big fan of Obituary

This is one I totally disagree on... Obituary is one of my favorite Bands ever (best album: world demise), although I never understood why they call themselves a death metal band and are listed as such. Probably because of the fact they're from Tampa, one of the two worldwide Death Metal nests.

To me, it's not death metal, never was, but pure groove metal (along the lines of bands like Pantera). Which is why I like them, whereas I couldn't care less about a real Tampa Death Metal Band like Cannibal Corpse...

Funny, I prefer Cannibal Corpse over Obituary, probably because they are a little more brutal. Not saying I don't like Obituary, I just prefer the other Tampa bands.

Death is always my favourite from that Tampa era, Human is one of my top 10 albums of all time. Either way, Immolation is my lost listened to and probably my most favourite.

Also, definitely nothing wrong with a bit of groove in Death Metal at all.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

Just checked out the latest At The Gates album, available on their youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01kXDai … 1g&index=1

Not bad (in comparison to other metal releases of the 2020s), but like with a lot of other bands from the 90s, it just doesn't feel as exciting as "Slaughter of the Soul" when I heard that the first time.

Not sure why that is, perhaps I was a lot more impressionable as a teenager - or perhaps it's because most bands keep playing their same old style and it just gets boring eventually.

I remember hearing Slaughter of the Soul when it first came out and was blown away. The new one is pretty good, it's a fantastic tribute to Tompa.  I find ATG's new stuff to be very good. I like the semi-Prog direction of the last few.

Re: What Are You Listening To? MetalHead Edition

Darkthrone, on the other hand, never failed to amuse for over 30 years now. Latest release:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNeLwdD … T6gOf1k5e4

Their music has changed quite a bit over the years from 2nd generation black metal to Motörhead-infused Thrash Metal. Every single album is kinda unique in its own crappyness smile
