Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

Yes, I'll see a Pileated woodpecker every now and then. Usually just passing through. I think we have a nested pair of red-headed woodpeckers; might be the same ones coming back each year. And this year a nested pair of red-bellied woodpeckers.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

Possums are always cute, especially the ring tail possums.

The one on the left was taken a few weeks ago and the other around christmas, so they keep visiting. We also get sugar gliders. Saw one last night but they are more difficult to photograph.

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

Plenty of opossums in the southeast US, I saw one running from a lawn crew yesterday! They look like this in the US, both adorable and hideous, depending on its mood...

^ Confusing. Is the bunny looking in a mirror? Is its reflection some feral weasel-bat? Is the reflection a hullicination  because the bunny is obviously huffing some gas, à la Blue Velvet? big_smile

Someone left half-dead cats on my drive. One might live, it looks like.

Callie, in the foreground, is a goner. RIP, Callie.

^ Fear not, they all are alive and well fed. Callie made a remarkable recovery from her coma.

^ Good for them.
What did you do with them; just give them to the vet?

Re: Cheery Pic of the Day

^ Lovely! I remember it from last year.

So my neighborhood has two crazy cat ladies. One is my neighbor's landlord, who drives here every morning to feed and water the kitties (she carries a big palm frond to shoo away the peacocks, it's hysterical).

The other neighbor who walks her gorgeous husky has been systematically trapping the cats and having them spade/neutered for free, she has like 4 cages and the vet sends a car to pick them up and return them. I don't know how she arranged that, but she's out there at 7 am or 11 pm collecting a trap or two, there are just a few males left to go at this point. Out of like 40 cats in a 3 block radius. She's a saint.

Callie wasn't in a coma, but she was trapped and spade while pregnant, so she's a bit of a sad momma with a small belly scar and distended nipples this week. Hence the snuggles.

At any point there might be seven cats out of 12 regulars flopped all over the driveway. Add about 10 peacocks walking by, it's a menagerie.

Boots (white) and Old Man, bonded brothers who are next to get snipped...

Callie the calico...

Sorry for the morbid humor regarding dead cats on the drive.
