No, that's fine. I think 1.7 is my average idle on GNOME, and that's with evolution removed and gnome-online-accounts sent to the bin. I assume you're running the full desktop. krita is light, but it's still a graphics processing tool, aka heavy.
Yes, it's pretty much EndeavourOS default Plasma desktop so there are some services like firewalld running that aren't typical.

Current idle with the monitor open, missed it by that much...
You still have a Sid or Ubuntu setup so you'll get Gnome 50 soon?

^ No, but the partition is there to install it when it's out. Six months without internet a few years back put me on Debian stable for life. That first update after a gap is, potentially, a system killer.
I'm wondering when gnome and gnome-shell will be the same package. On Debian, you can still install gnome-shell and gnome-control-center and get a desktop, avoiding things that the gnome package installs like avahi-daemon,

Cool, the 50 beta is out for gnome-control-center...

I installed the full GNOME desktop via the latest Debian testing weekly, there's a cute intro slideshow now.
Nine slides in all, adorable! gnome-system monitor is showing 2.7 GB of RAM usage with this tab of FF running, 1.7 at idle. Laptop fan is silent, being managed perfectly, nice.

Annoying that you have to reduce the display scaling down to 100 from the default 125%, but otherwise great. Some new wallpapers, I like this one...
Default "Dash to Panel" extension in the second scrot.
-edit- er, I didn't see it but now I can't unsee it. That's a penis.
A couple of adjustments...
