I know you aren't all fans of Appimages but sometimes its what you need, e.g. Arduino IDE latest version. I have just been using Appimage Launcher for the first time and without a fuss it has created the .desktop file and moved my Appimage from downloads into the right directory wizard!
Here's the link AppImageLauncher

I too have run into situations where appimages were an option for desired functionality.
The drawback (due to my own ignorance, of course) was the reliance upon a static location which led to a somewhat fragmented file organizational structure.
This appears to address that issue, which makes it appealing - gonna check it out ASAP.
Thanks much!

This seems to been like the issue with flatpaks but flatpak organization has improved markedly so having a good place for Appimages is a good thing too for easy management like with flatpaks.

You can know the generality of whats required but many of us don't have the detailed knowledge to execute it properly so this sort of Application saves so much time for us.

Totally agree, guys. As stated, some of us might take app placements for granted. Others either manually manipulate apps based upon experience and preference, or just don't care - leading to organizational issues down the road.
DeepDayze nailed it, having a more centralized, managed installation approach helps establish consistency and standardization, which IMHO is richly needed (generally speaking) in order to promote the Linux desktop environment. This is actually an area where Windows has excelled (i.e. Program Files), and I feel there's no reason why *nix distros can't capitalize upon this same concept.
Loving this implementation - thanks for the post!
