Great album. I don't know why the band didn't have more success; maybe they didn't have a strong enough image or get promoted enough by their record company. The singer sounds a lot like Geddy Lee of Rush, and Tony Bourge, the guitarist on this one, was very underrated as a musician.

Yes, how come did Budgie not have more success? Maybe they not were at the right place at the right time? They did not have the little luck to make it big? Wrong record company at the right time in music history? Too much of the Budgie originality in their music maybe? Or just not 6y enough? One of the truly big mysteries in life.

Below link to "Never Turn Your Back On A Friend", great third album.

I agree, I don't really know. One rock magazine supplement I once read suggested that they lacked a clear image and this was what held them back.

Anyway, "Sky High Percentage" from the "If I Were Britannia I'd Waive The Rules" album;

Probably, something like, that is just how the cards fell. Well this is another Saturday, another cup of coffee and fourth Budgie album "In For The Kill".

Re: What are you listening to right now?

The Crusaders - Street Life (which I'm sure you all know, but maybe you didn't know, as I didn't, that Randy Crawford was on vocals).

Back to Budgie; I've been listening to some of their later albums but I think "Bandolier" was their last truly good one. I found "If I were Britannia I'd Waive The Rules" and "Impeckable" insipid, despite the former's cool title, and the reviews I've seen of their 1980s albums suggest they didn't get any better after that.

Still, five good albums including at least one great one (Squawk), and getting your songs covered by the likes of Metallica and Soundgarden, isn't a bad track record for any band.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Stuart Copeland has done a ton of online media stuff, including an interview with Rick Beato, but I've never heard him talk about the count-in to King of Pain. I'd love to know if there was a count or if it was just a studio edit, because for 45 years (f@!# I'm old) I can't figure out the count after the intro.
