Re: Comments Requested - Introducing The Bunsenlabs Boron Desktop

@r.chaffee53 I resized some of the fullscreen shots to match what Damo had used - suffix 'l' on the imgur file ID.

Doing so I discovered that the second image "Window Manager Sessions" fullsize link is broken so I couldn't use it for the resized image. I wonder if you could post a fullsize version of https://imgur.com/T6v3ENy.png again?
https://i.imgur.com/hPbPEfm.png is broken.

^ Oh good, you freed up some time. I'm not familiar with imgur, so that's a help.
Here's the image you requested.

Thank you.

BTW, here is a scrot of the desktop without annotation. Included for completeness.
I don't think the annotation is needed.

No need to confuse users.

No worries, mate. This is just the discussion thread. When the elders are ready, post #2 will be moved to the Getting Started section of the Forum. Your gif is part of the conversation, I'd like to include it.

I've just given you a few tips if you decide to make a change.

And thanks for that. I don't have ImageMagick on my machine. Now if you want to work your Magic, pun intended, on the images (5 or 6 I think), I'll build the gif just to see how it turns out. Regardless if it's used in the tutorial.

If you need anything else, please post the links to the images and tell me how I can help you.
Unlike others I saw how many frames you made for just one GIF.
These are not hours but days of hard work.

It's part of the discussion about how to enhance the Introduction before going to print.
I'd like to see you edit your original post and include it. smile

If you need anything else, please post the links to the images and tell me how I can help you.

At this point it's probably better to start a separate thread; unless we're okay to ramble on here.

Oh you're giving me too much credit. I used an online generator. The work was in making the images line up correctly. More in the new thread if interested. I don't have a clue where that should be. Ideas?

Re: Comments Requested - Introducing The Bunsenlabs Boron Desktop

@Bob I've tweaked the text formatting slightly in a few places, in general moving a bit closer to Damo's version, but not that much. It's your post, and anywhere you prefer it the way it was before, just go in and edit it back!

Headings and titles in a long post like this are tricky when you want to show a hierarchy of information without messing up the appearance. I think you were right to take out the underlining of titles, but some important headers I've formatted

[h]title[/h]

instead of

[b]title[/b]

I've set every filepath in italics, just to be consistent, likewise every menu path in bold.

I've indented all the big images by 4 spaces from the left - just thought it looked slightly better...

I've added a little extra info in a couple of places, some imported from Damo (but rearranged) some from me.

You get the idea, nothing drastic, and feel free to revert anything you want.

I'm not 100% sure whether you'll be able to edit the post once it's in the "system zone" (you might be) but anyway, let's get it pretty much done before moving it.

I'm perfectly happy with it how it is (fantastic job!), but go ahead if you want to make any additions.

And anyone else's suggestions - now is the time!

Re: Comments Requested - Introducing The Bunsenlabs Boron Desktop

@Bob, you should include touchpad config! For example, if you switch to the "alternative" config line in bl-autostart (comment our line #66 and uncomment #68), on your next login it enables two and three finger tap-to-click on (most?) touchpads.

I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

There's something odd happening here.

Here's what I see now, after your latest edit - not an edit preview, but how firefox is displaying the actual post. The desktop view is not indented, but grub is:

Hit Edit to see the code:

This introduction is an updated version of the excellent work by @damo - [url=https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic.php?id=6461]here[/url].

Sure enough, no indenting of the desktop image.

If I put those 4 spaces in:

Hit Submit (not Preview), and the images are both nicely aligned:

Quite odd. I have the exact opposite experience, as I've shown. I removed three of the four spaces and it lined up for me. I've no answer; but it doesn't sink the ship. Do as you think best.

Are you sure your browser isn't caching the previous layout in some way?
How does the code look to you if you hit Edit or Quote?

Your screenshot looks to me as if the desktop is indented OK, but the grub shot is not.
On mine, they're both indented 4 spaces.

But it's the same web page. What browser are you using?

A forced reload of the web page produces the scrot from my previous post; staggered images. Edit > Preview shows the images aligned without making any changes to code. If I edit the code to make alignment in the Real Output, Preview shows images staggered in reverse. Firefox 128.

Re: Comments Requested - Introducing The Bunsenlabs Boron Desktop

I've edited the code back so both images are indented by four spaces.
On Firefox 115.14.0esr that gives both images aligned correctly, both in "Preview" state and actual page.
There's no reason why that should not be the case, too.

Hang on, let me make a screenshot from Chromium to compare...

Re: Comments Requested - Introducing The Bunsenlabs Boron Desktop

Here, in Chromium:
I78jadcl.png
And yes, it's like your shot.

But look, it's not the desktop image which is wrong - that's lined up with all the previous images, in by 4 spaces.
What's out is the final grub shot, which is failing to be indented as it should be.
In Firefox 115 it's OK, but in your Firefox 128 and in Chromium 127.0.6533.99 the grub screenshot is not indented.

Maybe a poke around the "inspect" function will tell something tomorrow, for for now can we just leave it without any hacks in the code, ie 4 spaces for both images?

I suppose a possible hack might be a transparent image instead of the four spaces, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

What's also interesting is that if you look at the html there are two - not four -   elements to the left of both images.
