Be warned -- that package manager *may* work in a Manjaro system but it calls partial upgrades regularly and, as such, runs a very high chance of breaking a pure Arch system.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

^ If I have to have Pamac in that install, I have to purge it and install it back. When the system becomes an Arch install, certain amount of packages must come from Arch repos and AUR. The word "unsupported" has a relative meaning.
You update your system, when you want, not when the package manager wants.

screenfetch or it's a baloney statement.

I really think you should read my posts from #208. You might at least understand something.
I install distros bit differently than you do. https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 9166#p9166 , https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 955#p11955 So, I don't have to prove it to you. I don't claim anything, for its sheer fun digging through.

Its done, and my interest in Manjaro is practically gone, other than in their very pretty themes, icons, wallpapers and of course Pamac.

I did read it, and I still say Arch is loads better.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

CAUTION: RANT ALERT.

I'm a grumpy old fart (fricktard?), who's not a dev or a wiz with C++, python, or even bash, and I get a little snarky when I read what I perceive to be elitist attitudes that if you haven't installed Arch or Gentoo, for example, you're not quite good enough for Linux. Well, more and more people are using Linux in one form or another and many, if not most, have neither the skill, patience, desire, nor time to do things the Arch way or the Gentoo way. They just want a distro that works for them, which is why distros like Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, Manjaro, to name just a few, are so popular. Isn't Linux about freedom? In addition to the myriad Linux distros, look at how many DEs there are! There's no single distro or DE that's for everyone, even if you think what you're using is the best there is and even if you think you know better! END RANT. roll

Yes, fricktard. I am one. It's when you're so old that you're just over the bullcrap. Zero is the amount of fricks I give.

@ Hoas: Ah, yes, busybox. Thanks for the reminder, HoaS. I always want to try it but always forget about it. It should be into the text box too. It's usually said it's intended for small and embedded systems. Besides that, I know some folks use it successfully for regular systems. I guess it won't show limitations in simple systems.

Yes, they're too stable. LOL.

Talking about Jessie based distros/distrolettes, there is one french spin that deserves a go, at least for a few hours in a virtual machine. I don't remember if I mentioned it here before, anyway here it goes.

Voyager X 8

Jessie, Xfce, 3 WM choices (xfwm, compiz and Kwin) and a cool set of interesting scripts and tweaks. The bad news is that it's fully customized in french... I spent more time translating scripts one by one than actually using the system LOL. (I installed this distro for a friend and she wanted it all in spanish... oh dear, of course the translation is not complete).

This is true! Switching over to Jessie from Ubuntu server was the best decision I ever made.

Daaang! I love me some ol'-skool gnome. You have upgrades available! (or is that a weather icon?)

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I ditched my nicely tweaked BunSid for Mint 17.3 a couple of days ago. It's nice and all, but just does not feel right somehow. Mint may not stay on my box for long. I may end up building Sid with an icewm-ish version of Bunsen.

@John  I see that old school gnome comes with an old school kernel. I have not used anything with a 2.6 kernel in a long time.
And people say Debian Stable uses old software!

I'd be interested in seeing if Gnome2 and Compiz can be run reliably on a newer base. I used to love that combo. Ok, maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I am getting restless again.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I have been trying a lot of distros lately, on my old laptop, and I have finally found one I like: MX-15.

As a coming together of Mepis and anti-X, it has some great features.Even better:it bunsens up nicely. This is set to become my work distro, with their beautiful xfce, their own tools, and a bunsened openbox whenever I want.

Read me happy because I needed a change.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

For those who like living on the edge, a new release of siduction is out:

Probably a better option than BunSidLabs...

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Thanks for the heads up regarding Siduction. I had just checked there a couple days earlier and the images were a year old.

Just installed the fluxbox version in a VM and so far I like it.
