^Yes maybe darken down some of those elements a bit? Perhaps add just a tiny bit of colour somewhere? eg borrow the Bullseye cyan for highlighting, like the red in Lithium? (might need greying down a bit though)

Personally I'd like a plain wallpaper, but others have different preferences.
Likewise I think the seamless boot path grub>tty>login>desktop that plain black makes possible is a plus, but the idea came up of a very dark grey instead, eg the #2F3537 of tile.png that we ship in wallpapers as a CrunchBang legacy...

How would it be if the wallpaper decorations' colours were very dark, subtle, almost invisible against the black background, something like a faint watermark?

Long and short of it, you guys are suggesting we go back to the #! desktop with a dark theme. I'm all about it, since we'll include additional themes, but I want to make sure I'm on the same page as y'all before doing more work.

Sigh, I really like my OP scrot. I was hoping we'd move forward with theming, not backwards, but so be it. GTK4 will probably be in the next Debian release and at the moment it doesn't allow theming at all, so let's have fun while we can.

the core applications are being ported to libadwaita which currently doesn’t allow for any theming or coloring, which means they would be visually inconsistent with our other components. We are working with upstream to try to get this resolved but it’s not likely to be for this cycle.

Just revisited the OP and yes it is beautiful.
We're getting various opinions here and it's hard right now to get a feel.

@hhh this next suggestion would double your workload, so feel free to dismiss it, but a two-pronged approach for a week or two? Lay out the Sunrise and Crunchy-black options side by side, after a bit of reflection choose one as Default (the one that reviewers will see) and make the other one available in the BLOB collection?

I think when the time comes we'll have to seriously consider it. Thank goodness Debian stable is so far behind the times.

Well could do worse than a mass shift to Qt, LXQT is my favourite native Debian DE, which puts it only one place behind Bunsen, & I like KDE apart from I don't have modern enough hardware to run it well.

The default Bullseye - so probably your Beryllium rig too - comes with desktop-base which now ships a whole load of background images. Here's the list! Don't know if there's anything of interest in there...

Guessing you are looking for these? "Campfire.png" is probably the best, however, None of them are perfect to be sure, with some ragged edges. I need to learn how to do a few more things to get these right. Also, they are only .png, no .svg

Pretty much, to "beautify" images, I have been using the same general technique in Gimp of:
1. Resize logo to size wanted.
2. Copy, paste, and move to where desired, but keep selected (No merge down).
3. Hit the "g" key for the gradient tool, and swipe while holding left click down. Change the colors on the fly while the line is in place.
4. Hit return.
goto to filters, decor, "add bevel" . . . and done. Sometimes I get awesome images, sometimes not.

I would like to start working with .svg as well at some point. Looks like they handle the edges better? Lots to learn here for me.

Looks like you already have a decent plan in place. Looking forward to seeing the new stuff:)

Yep, that is one of those I did in place per the directions in my last post. I found if I try to just change the image in place on the transparency, the edges come out really jagged after using the gimp bevel tool. I'm sure there is some way to mitigate this, but I haven't found it yet.

If sized and transferred first though, the outcome is different and I generally get decent images. The directions in my last post created the beveled flame.png. I used the original flame.png from flame.png

Would be happy to create a version or two if you have the background and general placement ideas. Probably other folks would too.
