Re: What do you listen to - Internet streaming a.k.a radio and such?

Resonance FM
Quite interesting London-based community radio - mix of music & discussion, sounds...

I can't remember if this was posted before, but my streaming link stopped working a while ago.
Finally found this one which works in mpv (doesn't seem to use youtube-dl) and vlc but only intermittently in radiotray-ng (my usual source) which complains about "bad data".
Anyway, try: http://stream.resonance.fm/resonance-backup

EDIT: http seems to work better than https with some clients.

Mission accomplished big_smile Thanks for looking into it.

Look on jublab.jp's Mixcloud page https://www.mixcloud.com/dublabjp/ and get the link to the show at the top  of the list.

Youtube-dl does that!
Having mpv + youtube-dl, I can just

mpv https://www.mixcloud.com/dublabjp/

it finds the first, plays it, then automatically goes to the next item.

big youtube-dl fan here but didn't know it worked on other sites.   Score!!

Too much talk imho; although the music on "STG #1136: Early Influences" is really nice - after the weak Paul Simon intro.
RedLightRadio starts with "Residents in Residence: Sinister or Sanctuary..." - no talking so far, super weird stuff. I think I like it.

I don't know how to incorporate all this into my collection of radio station playlists... sad

Re: What do you listen to - Internet streaming a.k.a radio and such?

^I hate DJs' talking over music fadeouts.
Dislike/hate Paul Simon too, but agree about the rest of the STG #1136 show.

That first RedLightRadio show is avery long track indeed - I quite liked it, but glancing at the web playlist later shows might be quite different. Will check out in due course...

How do you manage/play net radio generally?

I'm using radiotray-ng atm which is OK generally but can't handle the difficult stuff that needs youtube-dl so I've also got a jgmenu "Media" menu for trickier stuff - now with a "Mixcloud" submenu. But starting mpv from a menu means you need some way to control it - terminal, "pseudo-gui" or maybe some "slave mode" (mplayer had one, but I haven't researched mpv properly). A systray icon is perfect for my needs. Patch radiotray-ng to use mpv instead of gstreamer? Have another look at brontosaurusrex's radioClicky (wasn't exactly what I wanted at the time)?

OT/ Another recent find was goodvibes which is in the Buster repo, has a --status-icon option to run in the systray, and can also take cli commands or via dbus so it looks quite flexible, and fairly light. But it can't handle those mixcloud-type streams that mpv+youtube-dl accepts, and the bookmarks are a flat list with no sub-folders. I demand to be able to store my radio urls in categories, some way or other.

...also, streaming urls change all the time, so quick & easy bookmark editing is important too.

New discovery: Vintage Obscura Radio

Nearly 70,000 music-obsessed researchers scour the internet daily to uncover nearly forgotten music of every genre and category at /r/vintageobscura

Curated playlists rotate between recently posted tracks or hour-long shows of the same or similar genres.

All tracks have fewer than 30,000 views on YouTube at the time of discovery and were released before 1996.

Re: What do you listen to - Internet streaming a.k.a radio and such?

I have already posted but in another topic (» What are you listening to right now?).
This looks like a better place.

XRDS.fm is a great radio station (from Clarksdale, Mississippi) for blues  fans.

In the heart of the Mississippi Delta:

RadioTrayNG:

One of the few radio stations that gives the name of the album  (if it's not a single)  along with the artist  and the song.

You are from Sweden, right?
Swedish blues guitarist and one-man band, a.k.a. Johan Eliasson (Bottleneck John).

Thanks for the link.
I can recognize many elements of Delta Blues  musicians.

Wikipedia wrote:

Delta blues is one of the earliest-known styles of blues. It originated in the Mississippi Delta and is regarded as a regional variant of country blues. Guitar and harmonica are its dominant instruments; slide guitar is a hallmark of the style. Vocal styles in Delta blues range from introspective and soulful to passionate and fiery.

However, I prefer to go back to the roots of blues (rock & roll) and listen to old, little-known artists.

Radio station XRDS.fm with its huge collection is the right choice.
I'm sure I listened to Bottleneck John  there.
