Updated Debian 10: 10.6 released

Please note that the point release does not constitute a new version of Debian 10 but only updates some of the packages included. There is no need to throw away old "buster" media. After installation, packages can be upgraded to the current versions using an up-to-date Debian mirror.

^The only thing I noticed on default Buster was that the upgrade warned of a new repo channel version number or something, then it installed a new kernel. After that, 'sudo apt --purge autoremove' removed an old kernel, but that still left the new one and the two most recent older ones. A clean upgrade for me, no manual config editing was needed.

I love Debian stable and Lithium. Small wonder MX Linux is #1 on DistroWatch, it's Xfce on Debian stable with a large repo of updated/backported packages.

Repository 'https://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease' changed its 'Version' value from '10.5' to '10.6'

Apart from the kernel, I had mostly a lot of qt library upgrades. No questions asked.

Hopefully someone will take Cinnamon and also needs updates to some dependencies (that may also be getting the boot). Seems Cinnamon's gotten pretty popular but aren't many using Mate instead?

I was reading GTK4 was released, GTK2 is EOL. Not sure if that matters to BL but figured I’d bring it up

I also saw the GTK 4.0 news today. I assume that almost no apps have been ported to it yet except for the GNOME apps in the upcoming GNOME 40 release, due in March or so...

March is after the soft-freeze of Bullseye, so no way is GNOME 40 making it in and GTK 4 should be barely an issue in BL Beryllium.

I have a similar list doing a simulated removal of libgtk2.0-0, and hopefully these can be migrated to gtk3 or suitable replacements found for these programs for those that can't be migrated to gtk3. Gtk2's impending deprecation will mean moving to address this in BL where possible where resources and time permit.

^I don't think GTK2 is going to disappear for a while yet - anyway Debian Bullseye still has the GTK2 libraries: https://packages.debian.org/source/bullseye/gtk+2.0

Migration of the above packages might or might not happen, depending on the motivation of their developers. It's certainly not something BunsenLabs would ever take on. More likely is that we'll some day have to search for replacements, but that's a task well down the road, I think. (Up till now we've been trying to resist the GTK3 switch as hard as we can - it's not necessarily a plus for all users.)
