Sorry I can't find the post ATM (it was John having some major doubts about the color scheme/wallpaper/theme}, but this deserves a new thread anyway.
@John, I was never sold on that theme, it was too cold and too similar to my other release themes. How about something like Yeti but using your fabulous photo as a wallpaper? Disclaimer - a custom theme by me, not @cog's Yeti theme. Definitely a similar vibe, though.
If not that, just pipe up everyone and I'll try and produce!

This thread was a good idea IMO - get a focus on the whole Be graphics stack, as release shouldn't be very long now (as long as there's no nasty surprise with live-build).
Up to now we've continued #!'s very simple plain desktop images. Simple + elegant.
@hhh I can see your desire for something more, OK, organic...
I think it would be good to get input from others here. Possibly even throw the topic open to the community, at the risk of getting bogged down in bikeshedding?

Not sure if this was the post you were referring to?
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 61#p119361
Specifically:
Personal opinion: Be-Penguin is very purple. Desaturate a bit if we stay with this? Bit darker? Bit bluer? Maybe the dark areas are OK, just the light parts need attention?
I'm OK with the dark blue same-colour-as-Bullseye #010027 wallpaper in fact. Like this, with the decorations removed, maybe throw in a suitably coloured small BL logo on top, as you did with the photo?
And perhaps pick off the colours from the Debian things to use in our palette?
I just have problems with the big purple square in the middle of the file-manager, mainly (it looked even more purple on top of the Lithium wallpaper I had set at first):
Could it be desaturated down to a dark greyish tone, only slightly lighter than the surroundings? How would other GTK windows then look? Is that the same colour that Geany and Mousepad would use as the text background?
And the red highlighting could be turned down or switched for something less... lipsticky? It looked good with the Lithium grey, but here... not so much, to me anyway.
In fact even the Debian dark blue now strikes me as a bit too blue perhaps? Grey it down and we'd almost be back with Lithium though. Maybe if some of those teal colours from Debian came in to the theme it would freshen the overall effect up a bit?
And not sure about the icon colour. I tried grey instead of blue-grey and it didn't really seem much of an improvement.
---
I like that sunrise photo very much (I took it ) but I'm really in two minds whether it would be good as our default wallpaper. It's beautiful, and your chosen theme colours match well. (Ship it as a BLOB alternative theme set?) Personally, I have a nice colourful wallpaper, changed randomly every couple of days, and enjoy it. But at least half the time I'm working in a maximized window - Firefox, Thunderbird or Geany - so don't see it. There does seem to be a danger of slipping into Ubuntu territory with the "warmer, more organic feeling theme" idea...
---
OK that's just one person's opinion. Simple and Elegant is the #! and BL strong point I think. Not too much distraction from peoples' work, but certainly not ugly. Let's see what other input we get.

^ All good feedback and opinion John, thank you. A couple of days for me to mull it over and then more discussion.

Pulled over from the public discussion:
Maybe sticking with the default Debian Bullseye dark blue + teal palette is what made the trial theme cold and clinical?
Drop that and try an unrelated - possibly warmer - colour palette?

I think this has been up for a while, but regardless...
https://github.com/hhhorb/bunsen-themes/tree/hhhorb
BE light and dark should be in there, I need to clean up and update the rest of the repo.

^Could that be the theme you posted here?
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 16#p120016
...which looked like the path for Beryllium, no?
That post was January, but the repo was last updated 8 months ago...
---
As to handling adding the new themes to the existing package, I would suggest, instead of trying to clean up hhhorb/bunsen-themes, leave it aside for now and make a new fork from the beryllium (not lithium) branch of bunsen-themes:
https://github.com/BunsenLabs/bunsen-th … /beryllium
add your current (matching Bronto's wallpaper as in the post above) suggested Be light and dark themes to the 'themes' directory along with the rest, then send a Pull Request so I can merge it back in to the BL package. (The commits in the git history will keep your name.)
We can consider at leisure whether to keep the Penguin themes, or some of the other old ones still in there (Rainforest? Softwaves?)

Yes, especially Penguin, and add some new ones! Taking a while because of life, the radio show, and I still have to finish the Openbox and notification themes.

The Be themes are way wrong ATM but the Lithium-light theme looks great with this wall from B-Rex...

RAM usage is almost identical to my benchline once I remove the same packages (clipboard, at-spi2-core). This looks good enough to release to the forum, IMO.

So, for the alpha-2 build - make public on the forum - add that wallpaper to bunsen-images, set it as default and set the default theme to Lithium-light?
That's a wide wallpaper image - no need for resizing/trimming to match our current 1920x1080? Or is it time to start shipping bigger wallpaper images for HiDPI users?
What about Conky btw? That's not the default Lithium conky you've got there.
---
About bunsen-images: the wallpapers are getting more and more, and for minimal users might be annoying, how about putting only the necessary default images in bunsen-images and shipping a bunsen-images-more with the others? We can still ship both packages in the standard iso, but only the default images with "lite".

Use the default conky with an appropriate color, I thought that was understood.
The wallpaper is fine, let HiDPI be a forum topic.
Nice work, John!

OK, I'm still asking where the dark theme that you used here is. Is it basically the Lithium theme?
(EDIT: ah I see now what you have there is a little bit lighter than Lithium, matching the new wallpaper.)
Already looks pretty nice to me. We use the Papirus yaru icons, right? I'll spin up a new icon package with that variant included.
And you posted up a wallpaper with a BL logo, here: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 19#p120019
Use that instead of this? I think that faded-out logo looks stunning.

Yes, definitely with that logo.
Not in-your-face BUNSENLABS, just elegant and restrained. Something to inspire confidence.

Right, so I didn't lose that dark theme, I named it Bronto2...
All sorts of customizations (transparency, vertical tint2, removed some applets, no conky, icons enabled in jgmenu), but you get the idea.
-edit- Gaa, gotta at least match the menu font.

^And like it better than 8bital seemed to...
What can we do so it doesn't annoy him too much?
Desaturate the reds a bit, and move them closer together?
I think that logo is fine though - it looks more grey than pink to me, though I suppose it could be greyed-out a bit more?

Anyway, @Has what do you think about settling on a default wallpaper/colour pallette/theme here?
Eight.bit.al is one of the few people who care to give us their opinions, and he didn't like the red theme much:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 67#p121067
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 02#p120002
But I still think it's OK. Possibly a bit of desaturization here and there?
But... I thought that black theme you posted a few days ago was great:
https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 18#p121218
Simple, elegant, keeps out of your face and lets you do the work.
Some forum members were OK with my suggestion of pure black, and some didn't want the TTY look, but maybe the above Very Dark Grey theme would keep most people happy? Simple and elegant.
Time to choose something anyway and push for release?

I like the idea of shipping a no-logo wall and having the logo be part of our conky, that's smart.
The logo can easily be a second conky. No problem at all in having two conkys running by default, and users can disable/move/edit either of them as they like.
If the logo conky is greyscale with transparency gradients it might look OK on a variety of wallpapers. Might need Light and Dark versions though.
