(solved) download filefactory

When downloading something from filefactory or similar what happens is that when you complete the name of the file is changed when you complete it, but there is a problem of permissions between the browser and the system when executing that name change, if someone can do the test with a small file.

In debian testing it also happened to me.

Re: (solved) download filefactory

Could you be more clear stating your problem? I'm not sure I understand the process you are using.

Could you give a link to a problem file for testing (or does it require a log-in?).

http://www.filefactory.com/file/3qrmb0q … ate.es.rar

This link is from a small file and it will not cost to make the test come to the end but it has not just been completed.

Re: (solved) download filefactory

I downloaded the file (@ 50KB/s hmm ) to my ~/Downloads, and renamed it without any problem.

I understand that English isn't your language, but I'm still not sure what your problem is. How is the browser involved in a name change?

Re: (solved) download filefactory

^Me too ... the download has been slow as well, but all files have my permissions, and I can do whatever I want with them (rename, delete, move, edit ...).

@OP: how are you downloading the file? Did you by any chance (and mistake) start your browser as root? Are you doing it on Linux at all, or on MS Windows?

Firefox usually creates, when downloading, immediately a file

downloaded.file.zip

of size zero while writing the download to

downloaded.file.zip.part

When the download completes, it does the equivalent of

mv downloaded.file.zip.part downloaded.file.zip

which, technically, uses the rename syscall (see rename(2)), which is why Firefox could complain about not being able to rename the file, implying that this step somehow fails.

This may imply a permission problem, or a file system may be mounted over ~/Downloads that is not writable, etc.

@hathor, could you provide the output of the following commands:

stat ~/Downloads
df -h
mount

Re: (solved) download filefactory

^Hm, good idea about this file.part, earlybird.

However, I tested it; the files during download and their permissions:

$ ls -Al
total 936
-rw-r--r-- 1 someusername someusername 0 Feb 25 14:53 Fix-it-up---Las-Aventuras-de-Kate.es.rar
-rw------- 1 someusername someusername 954463 Feb 25 14:54 Fix-it-up---Las-Aventuras-de-Kate.es.rar.part

I don't see any strange permissions here. Both files, rar.part and .rar are accessible by user (someusername = user who started firefox). And all extracted files have username:username permissions.

@OP: did you wait until file (*.rar) is fully downloaded?

Re: (solved) download filefactory

That's what earlybird says, the error happens to me with Chromium install Firefox and it seems to work. I have to try Chrome.

Re: (solved) download filefactory

I have tried Chrome and ok, it seems that the problem is from the stable version of Chromium, in Xubuntu Chromiun works well.

In the end I discovered that it was, thanks to that you had commented about Firefox and the tests with the 3 browsers.
