Re: TV Series

The X-Files episode "E.B.E." (the one where Mulder introduced Scully to the Lone Gunmen):

Scully said (while changing an ink cartridge in her pen):
Did you see the way they answered their telephone?  They probably think that every call they get is monitored and they're followed everywhere they go.  It's a form of self delusion; it makes them think that what they're doing is important enough that somebody would...
(finds radio transmitter soldered to her ink cartridge)

Wow.  I can't tell you how many times that's happened to me...because it never has.  Just sayin'.

EDIT:  It's a cute bit of "debate & switch" though.

Re: TV Series

^ thanks for that.
the series only just started; give it a little time, subtitles will (hopefully) crop up.

related:

anyhoo, without getting too enthusiastic about it, i would like to direct your attention towards Sleeper Cell.
i'm not even so sure if it's a very good show, but it has one quality: it strives to show that there's a difference between being a muslim and being a terrorist. amongst other things, it shows good muslims and bad white american islamistic terrorists.
it shows that terrorists are human beings, and even the term terrorist isn't always so clear.
a very important topic for post-9/11 tv entertainment.

Highly recommend OUAT as a series. Really clever storytelling and deep characters.

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

iZombie still makes me chuckle (and sometimes laugh outloud).
I went back in time and saw the pilot.  I've missed some of the first season.

Re: TV Series

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 Episode 2 "Living Conditions".  Buffy wangsting about her super-chipper roommate while Willow is putting up with a roommate who hosts all-night keggers.

She irons her jeans!  She's evil.

Love songs!  Nothing but love songs!!

(Of course the super-chipper roommate turns out to be a soul-sucking demon...)

Re: TV Series

Well, since Frank Kelly, the actor who played Father Jack Hackett recently passed away, I've been rattling through all the Father Ted episodes. I've watched them so many times I know them inside-out, but they still make me laugh no end. Terrific stuff. Happy St. Paddy's day, folks. Have a Guinness.

Re: TV Series

I am enjoying "The Sopranos" at the moment.
Italian, mafia dark comedy. Some great lines and characters in it. I love the main characters sister, she is off her head and so unpredictable.
it gets a 9.2 on imbd

same here.
watched maybe three episodes, still waiting for something to actually happen.
it definitely has some sort of appeal; maybe it also has genuine entertaining abilities for us-american entrepreneurs to let off some steam after a hard day in the entrepreneurship jungle...

I watched the whole series, you are right it does take a while to get going, but it does get better and I am looking forward to another series.

^ 's not on my hard drive anymore...

iZombie is fun. at least season 1. don't take it too seriously as a crime series, though.
edit: don't take it too seriously in any way!

Re: TV Series

^ I love it.
I just caught up on all seasons.
I was dubious at first.  I caught the ads while watching The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow on the CW website.
I saw the "last 5 episodes", got hooked then saw season 1-current.  Very fun.

Re: TV Series

iZombie, second season, more than halfway hrough:
it goes the same way as every (?) american series. what was once nice storytelling with interesting twists & turns, slowly begins to resemble a family/college/workplace drama (or sitcom?), more and more and more, a little bit more with each episode.
inevitable decisions are being drawn out endlessly (to preserve tension? doesn't work for me).

Example: Major should have started talking to Liv about being a zombie hitman. every nerve ending, every bit of common sense in my mind is screaming for it: "Get on with it!!!".

same goes for Liv & Blaine. Why is she letting herself be drawn into his scheming again and again, more and more, even though she (and all viewers) knows better? why? Get on with it!!!!

Speaking of endlessly drawn out plots, what about game of thrones? i dropped out after 4 seasons (and that is a good sign - usually it happens halfway through season 2) - did winter come already?

Re: TV Series

I think your expectations are set too high for a show called "iZombie".
On a different note, a friend told me he just didn't "get" Scorpion.  I just told him to think of it as the A-Team (the TV show not the movie) for the 21st Century.  Happy, for instance, plays the role of Mr T.  She's even the designated builder.

it's really a more general gripe i have with tv shows/series.
but yeah, my expectations are set too high.
i love tv series for the format, not the (lack of) quality.

Re: TV Series

Penny Dreadful is one of those better series. they also had the decency to stop after two seasons, leaving the viewer with a feeling of fulfilment and closure.
i'd love to see more of that (obviously without the previously mentioned deteriorations). i also loved vanessa.

Haha, yep smile

I must admit I found the end of season 2 to be lacking somewhat... everything else in that show had been amazing so far, but it just seemed like a bit of a damp squib.

Anyhow, season 3 coming right up.

Filler to stretch the plot; maybe also some extra drama for the ladies.

But the season finale was amazing!

I sincerely hope Penny Dreadful avoids going down this route.
