Refurb'd desktop, new enough to have UEFI enabled by default in BIOS.
Secure-boot is disabled.
I go for the basic, default disk setup, allowing installer to use entire disk and setup the partitions (~0.5Gb ESP partition, SWAP and / partitions).
But the install fails to install a bootloader and I end up with the error in the subject line.
Any ideas what the issue could be? It used to be straightforward installing linux with a grub in the MBR. Not sure what is going on now. Any help appreciated. Thks.

You have given so little informaation...
Did you install Lithium or Helium? (I recommend using Lithium).
Is the disk bigger than 4 TB?
Did the Debian installer give any error? (if you use graphical installer, you can do screendump from installation)
Anny error in installation logs in /var/log/installer/, especialley in syslog? Grub install should be mentioned there.
Is /boot fully populated?
I have onley installed two efi-bades ps's , no problem with them.
If you installed Lithium, can you try boot in rescumode and reinstall grub,

hey so i can shed some light into this
I went to install Li ..
the CD if you do a data verify says ok
I used DD it write to a usb ... the same way i have for years so i know thats cool.
what happens is when you go to install .... it Fails on the MD5 check for the grub.efi file ... I dont even have a system with uefi ... now i could manually install for sure i get it ..
however for the other people, the above is what there issue is ... i can help get more info if you need ... should be around the next few days i think..
bit of stuff i noted ......
there shows 2 partition on the usb one is called EFI .... so perhaps its not being mounted or its not looking in the right place? ... a guess would be someone put efi when it is called EFI ... but i am just guessing ...
