wlroots on debian buster

Hey folks!

I wanted to play around with wayland and stumbled across waybox and wayfirewm and would love to try them but there seems not be a way to get wlroots running on a non-testing/experimental system (haven't tried siduction or the like).
I managed to install wlroots-dev and wlroots5 via gdebi on my buster-system but meson will not acknowledge it as being present and thus giv up building even swayWM

should i install latest testing debian or even arch to go with the latest packages or do you see a way to really get this wlroots thing going? I am really confused because AFAIK debian announced to be shipped with wayland since the release of buster...

libwlroots5 require testing or higher https://packages.debian.org/

You have to, if you want to stay with Openbox.

or even arch

I do mind, that's why i am asking  for other possibilities...

I installed Gnome Buster, with wayland. Is not impressed.

Yeah i did so too.. well it is gnome and gnome was always a bit of a showstopper to me, but be that as it may... ;-)
Thanks for the answers so far and i may update the folks here about my wayland journey and wayfire in particular because it looks promising..
