How to install Lithium with USB stick

I burned busenlab lithium on a usb stick but when running install it wants a CD! but its a usb! How do you install from the usb stick?

Did you write the image in one of the ways recommended on the BL installation page: Installing from a live ISO image (CD/DVD/USB key).

Please say exactly what you have done.

I used another usb burner in MX Linux. dd looks too confusing. I'll pass on Busenlabs for now. or burn to CD

I burned busenlab lithium on a usb stick but when running install it wants a CD! but its a usb! How do you install from the usb stick?

There's a fairly simple way around this which seems to work on many machines, and I haven't seen it mentioned here, which is to unplug the USB stick when the prompt comes up and then plug it back in again (give the machine a few seconds to recognise it). On searching for the CDROM again, it carries on with the installation.

Haven't tried this with the Lithium build, but it works in many other cases.

Will I be able to apt-get update and upgrade to the final version of Lithium or will I have to reinstall when the final version comes out?

Noticed that when running update it says that the backports are disabled. Why would they let me install them? How do I enable the backports?

You won't have to reinstall, but the repository change will mean having to edit your apt sources list. It's very simple and we'll post a how to then.

The BL backports are not yet available - this is only a test release. It will be possible to enable them when the official release comes out. We didn't make a special "test" version of the welcome script though. ( Please see the note in the top post. )

Printing should work now. Debian backports are available, just not BL.

Sounds to me like the op may have forgotten to tell his bios to boot from USB.  If true, that problem has nothing to do with the USB image created.

Got the same problem again with a Lithium USB stick, but the above solution worked fine for me. It seems to be something to do with the Debian installer and installs using Ubiquity or Calamares (from live) have never given me this.

As described in this thread, wi-fi didn't work straight away but the following solution worked:

...Simply add the following to /etc/networkmanager/networkmanager.conf, and restart the network manager service. Works fine after that.:

[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no

It's strangely irritating and yet comforting at the same time to have the same old problems and (easy) fixes.
GParted didn't open for me in the live environment, but was ok after install.
