I am Scrooge incarnate and The Grinch pre-heart enlargement. Oh come, let us exploit Him! Every day should be Christmas, presents and good food for all.
That said, Happy Winter Soltice to all!
My 3 saving graces at Christmas, in reverse order...
#3) How The Grinch Stole Christmas (1966, directed by Chuck Jones of Warner Bros/Merry Melodies/Bugs Bunny fame)...
https://vimeo.com/channels/995772/147265890
#2) A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965). Quite subversive for its time, Lucy says some things...
#1) Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
-edit- In my opinion, Little Drummer Boy is one of the worst Christmas songs I can think of. Vince's version is pretty stunningly beautiful. And he follows it with Skating, which is pretty much a perfect mid-'60s jazz piano trio song.

So, after casual thought and a flip decision with Christmas Time Is Here (instrumental), I've determined that the best thing Christmas has ever produced is, in fact, Christmas Is Coming by Vince Guaraldi Trio, from 1965...

Guaraldi is definately a must for the season.
Short and incomplete list:
Dean Martin: Let it snow (sorry M. Bubble, not you)
Jussi Björling: O Helga Natt
Händel: Messiah
Bach: Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248)
Antti Railio: Sylvian joululaulu
Any Christmas song performed by Harry Belafonte
John Lennon: So this is Christmas and also
Imagine (if I say it's xmassy then it is!)
Looks like it's the one time of year when an atheist can go all spiritual and a born cynic pessimist imagines a glittering, soft world.

Nice list. I'll take Pretenders/Hynde 2000 miles over a Lennon Christmas, but tough call.

Nice shoutout to Handel. Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky was the straw on my camel's back for being a professional "classical" fiddler, but I'll gladly play Messiah every day until we all die.

Gah, just compare that to the dreck that is The Nutcracker. It starts off okay for a minute, I guess, and then goes to a boring dystopia somehow...

-edit- Messiah on period instruments. This is a really great performance...

Another interpretation, easily my favorite ATM due to minimal vocal and instrumental vibrato...

If anybody suggests Mariah Carey, I'll either get you banned or I'll just quit BL, that's where I draw the line. Number One on the Billboard charts this season after all these years, pulling her into second next to The Beatles for top hits, I believe. $60 million to Mariah to-date just in royalties. FUUUUU...

I like WHAM! I really do, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Their work, particular the "B-sides" is some of the chillest pop ever made (just search youtube for the song Blue).... yeah, anyway, I like WHAM!, except during X'mas time, because every public space I pass through plays that bloody Last Christmas song. Gaaaahhhh!!!

I ignore xmas 'till it goes away, and fortunately every year it does.

Well it is Xmas Eve here in not so sunny NZ. I am enjoying my (no-so)traditional Xmas Eve beer (normally a number of Guinness but tonight I thought I'd break tradition and run with Kilkenny) and listening to some most excellent Metal.
You guys rule, thanks for letting me be a part of this awesome forum and amazing distro. ArchLabs wouldn't be here without you.

Dude, it took me awhile... but George Michael was a huge talent, and the competitors were Boy George with Culture Club and freaking Duran Duran. I became a so-called adult in the early eighties. I knew it was was awesome then, but compared to today... How did everything get so much worse? Never mind, I withdraw the question.

As a Metalhead, I appreciate George Michael. He is no Michael Jackson but at least he has Michael in his name.

I love this song of his, but I could easily hate it if I had a different attitude...

Right, so Jesus cursed the fig tree for no reason, but also somehow caused the passage of time itself to come into question.
Well. The Nutcracker seems slightly less horrendous now, though still an utter piece of crap. Merry flipping Christmas!
