how to install nvidia graphic driver?

Hello i have been tried to install nvidia graphic driver but it failed i was unable to boot i had some error like "failed to start display lightdm" if i remember right, so i fixed it by doing Ctrl+f1 and logging in in to root, then i had to unistall nvidia graphic driver and remove

"xorg.conf.nvidia-xconfig-original"

and

"xorg.conf"

from "/etc/X11".

when i do

"sudo lshw -c display"

command output is like this:

  *-display
       description: VGA compatible controller
       product: Intel Corporation
       vendor: Intel Corporation
       physical id: 2
       bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0

       configuration: driver=i915 latency=0
       resources: irq:374 memory:a4000000-a4ffffff memory:80000000-8fffffff ioport:f000(size=64) memory:c0000-dffff
  *-display

       product: GK107M [GeForce 810M]
       vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
       physical id: 0
       bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0
       version: a1
       width: 64 bits
       clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list rom
       configuration: driver=nvidia latency=0
       resources: irq:22 memory:a2000000-a2ffffff memory:90000000-9fffffff memory:a0000000-a1ffffff ioport:c000(size=128) memory:a3000000-a307ffff

Re: how to install nvidia graphic driver?

Have a look at the links in this post: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 393#p78393

My experience, and those of others as well, is DO NOT MESS WITH XORG.CONF!

Installing and running nvidia-detect will tell you the driver you need. Remember to do any driver installation AFTER shutting down your lightdm session.

sudo systemctl stop lightdm.service

But my qusetion is, is there any way to install nvidia graphic driver and make games such as minecraft and xonotic to use nvidia graphic driver, current performance is slow.

If you have a hybrid graphics laptop, then you also need to configure bumblebee

I cannot answer that for you, but the first search result for "debian intel and nvidia graphics" was this:
https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers/Optimus

Re: how to install nvidia graphic driver?

my  "lspci | grep 3D" is:

03:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce 810M] (rev a1)

so my gpu is Nvidia GeForce 810M.
i did checked on this website: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/optimus/supported-gpus
And my graphics card is not listed there so that means it does not support Optimus??
but when I had windows 10 pro installation I had Intel HD and Nvidia driver installed. and when is battery low it auto switches to intel power saving mode?

I need my pc for video editing and sometimes I want to play games I am school student and i switched to Linux because my bios UEFI/GPT does not support older Windows versions than Windows 8 and 10 so I had choice to stay on bloatware windows with non-free apps or switch to Linux which is lightweight and runs better on my laptop, and I really have no problems using Linux only problem I encountered is graphic card driver.

on seller website, I can not find any info about my gpu.
Specifications:

  • 15.6-inch IPS (1920 x 1080 pixels), 7th gen Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, full size keyboard, dual speakers, USB Type-C port, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, VGA, HDMI, Ethernet, card reader, webcam

I cannot find this device anywhere.
I'm just going to guess that it's way too new for debian oldstable.
Have you tried a few different distros?

You really need to turn away from manufacturer pages and start searching linux-specific stuff about your hardware/drivers.
