The monopoly control of the American organization ICANN over domain names has long been an anomaly. The internet does not belong to the USA any more. How to get out of this mess now is not an easy nut to crack though.

I vote for strange women lying in ponds distributing domains.

Still trying to absorb some of the details of this story.
There is certainly the stench of something fishy going on from from the beginning.
Sociopaths are allowed to profit at the expense of the public good once again. That's what I'm seeing.
Someone figured out how to rake in a few million from non-profits around the world through the power of monopoly. Something which is, in theory, illegal in almost every nation on this planet.

^Millions?
The deal developed by former ICANN CEO Chehade is worth billions of dollars.
bunsenlabs.org - I guess we wait for the deal to go through this spring and then see how protesting sites like npr.org, c-span.org and nationalgeographic.org react? I assume debian.org is also against this deal.

A quick sample of linux domains that use .org
And so on, and so on, and so on.
Man, that lxqt homepage is pretty sweet.

Yes you are right about that, the colors reminds me of somthing...
Ontopic; Someone is trying to make an abominable amount of money.
A bit nerdy, trying to grow up.

That is sad, selling TLD's like that.
However, I'm sure that .org has been effectively meaningless (not limited to non-profits) for many years already.

More articles have come out, I read that they're talking about a 10% increase on what is currently about USD $10/yr for renewing a .org domain. So, a dollar the first year, $11. A dollar and ten cents the next year, so $12.10? It's year two I'm looking at, but I'm guessing short-term nothing will change, it's too costly for the major sites to switch domains and update all their internet and print media. Every text and image '.org' replaced.
Honorable mentions...
The new site design for Kali is outstanding...
I think Ubuntu is mostly .com now, but the derivatives aren't...
Lubuntu uses .net. Slick.
I'm looking at you, ArchLabs. What a great homepage, it's so CrunchBang...
@twoion is holding things down nicely, check out the button-hover color. I love that he hasn't bothered to update the old flame-placement on the logo, same with the Forums header. It's history...
