^ i tried that one a few months ago now, i was quite impressed. Did just about everything out of the box smoothly even on an old machine like mine. Definetly newb friendly if you are starting out in the gnu/linux world.

Maybe you're confusing this distro with another; from the DW review:
"I think that it is probably a very good distro for a more advanced user."

Just read the steps it takes to install. Everything is done from the command line, after you've built the configuration.nix file.

5. Do the installation:
# nixos-install
Cross fingers. If this fails due to a temporary problem (such as a network issue while downloading binaries from the NixOS binary cache), you can just re-run nixos-install. Otherwise, fix your configuration.nix and then re-run nixos-install.

But the configuration.nix file is the real power of this system, totally customized distro, reproducible.

^ yes i think you may be correct, i must have confused Netrunner with NixOS. Both offer similar Kde Plasma Desktops except Netrunner has a graphical installer.

I have been messing with Lite and LXLE in VMs lately, but then I get to snapd and say "nah, I'll stay on the Debian side of the pond."

* debian updated to 10.1
* firefox updated to 69.0.1

I'm sorry mrneilypops, as much as I've waited impatiently for this, as much as I'm disappointed. I admit that I tried it between three weeks (vacation Austria, house reconstruction/renovation, vacation Baltic Sea) with little time. It should all go fast...

It starts again as usual that even after the third download the given sha1 and md5 sums with the advertising chaos of sourgeforce are not correct.
This finally continues in QEMU with the same bugs to the
setting of the German language, which I have described here.
This help on the Live-ISO doesn't help either.

It simply can't be that a live ISO doesn't even have the keyboard layout
recognizes! If I put up with the English language, but what's this damn American keyboard layout, which just can't be changed?
Not even "dwmX (Italiano) works...

I don't know who is behind the dwmX project, how many people are developing it, but congratulations to the illustrious circle of users...

Maybe I'm just too stupid with my 70 years...

sha256sum /path/to/file

As for locales have you tried;

sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

package locales (space-saver) is installed by default.

keyboard;

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration
sudo service keyboard-setup restart

I have full-corporate RHEL8 on a VM in the office now. Slick.

Also toying with a Xubuntu minimal install.

I've found out that only after you do an installation (tested in QEMU) can I change the keyboard layout.
It is important to run the refractainstaller in text mode (German was not possible here either). But the procedure is simple.

After the first start I spent many hours changing the installation to German (re-install; dpkg-reconfigure locales etc.). It is important to set English as well as ONLY German. Nothing else is used.

But this is only partly possible in jgmenu. The applications are first stubbornly English. From the previous version I know, that this results with "the time".

Running startx in tty every time to see the desktop is also impractical.

I would consider startx a valid/typical tty command for a distro such as dwmX.
There again the user is free to install an alternative.

Please bear in mind dwmX is a solo project by yours truly.
I am considering future development at the moment for 2020.
I will either go in the direction of 'more user friendly' or even more 'stripped down'

The great plus of dwmX is that I only have to delete two or three folders (plus thunar, plus vlc) to be totally at home. And very nice theming (I am totally in love with the add-on that change the focus/unfocus grey color in urxvtc clients) indeed.

What are you plans for future developments? I think there is very few things to add...

I think the creator or dwmX adopted the correct philosophy in terms of patches: no patches at all. The two you post here are absolute bloat for me. And I need for example the "scratchpad" one (maybe totally irrelevant for you).

Finally it's a personal decision of MrNeilyPops, but I agree with his actual no-patches policy.

I adopted a 'no patches' approach for dwmX 1.0

I am considering my options for 2020+

Either;
1. A new version 2.0 of dwmX.
2. A new debian/dwm distro including patches but less apps out of the box (sid+liquorix kernel)

I took a look at the live session of the "SolydX 64-bit" version of SolydXK 10 (released Sept 27), from a flash drive. Closely based on Debian Buster. The SolydX version, of course, ships with Xfce.

The flash drive has booted fine on three different computers here so far. Seems like a very good distro, although some might be put off by the orange and white theme colors. I was surprised to see that SolydXK has such a low hits per day ranking at Distrowatch (six-month period); the live session, at least, struck me as one of the best I've seen. I found a nice collection of tools that included everything I like and need in a Stable-based live session.

^ I remember SolydXK from many years ago.
I'm glad to see that they're still doing their thing, unfazed by distrowatch ranking snakeoil.
Definitely a recommendation for no-nonsense "Just Works" long-term setups.
