Upgrading gimp and other apps

Aince BL is based on Debian 9 it has older versions of apps. How do you upgrade to newer apps? Do I have to change sources.list to Buster or Bullseye?
If yes how is that done in BL? Thanks

The first thing you do is search the forum! How can I add new software?

For applications like GIMP, there is a flatpak image, and also a self-contained portable version. I always run Blender using the downloaded portable zipfile, which is always the latest version.
