In the terminal I ran cat /proc/cpuinfo

I noticed a bug report

bugs        : cpu_meltdown spectre_v1 spectre_v2 spec_store_bypass l1tf mds

is this a known problem on a 32-bit system and what if anything can I do to fix this

Google "spectre meltdown", and enlighten yourself!

Yes, it is a known problem (and even appeared on mainstream media); and there are mitigations.

Archlinux The vanilla Linux kernel has not enabled the fixes by default.
I'm not saying they're completely harmless, but it's something that has way more relevance on big VM farms and other enterprise use cases, not on you typical single-user desktop.

Anyhoo, Huldalumi, do some websearching.

there's this script you can try to get a more comprehensive test (and maybe some explanation, too).

I have done some online research some of what I read I did not understand, but a late night of searching and reading by about three o'clock in the morning and I finally came to the conclusion I'll just have to live with it

not if the spectre/meltdown mitigations are enabled (or at least one of those causes performance losses of up to 40%).
