basic tint2rc, heavily commented, incl. CB 11 and BL 8 (RC1) defaults

This is basically "me going through the (old) tint2 configuration page, and adding things as comments to my tint2rc file",
with the default values (if present) from both CrunchBang 11 Waldorf's, and BunsenLabs 8 Hydrogen (RC1)'s, tint2rc files added to it.

If you copy it, and save it to a file in your ~/.config/tint2/ directory,
e.g. as ~/.config/tint2/commented_CB11_BL8-rc1.tint2rc
you can then use the tint2 Chooser ([Super]+[Space] → Preferences → Tint2 → Tint2 Chooser) to try it out.

# You can define as many backgrounds as you want.

# tint2 automatically identifies each background with a number starting from 1 (1, 2, ...).
# Afterwards, you can apply a background to objects (panel, taskbar, task, clock, systray) using the background id.

# Identifier 0 refers to a special background which is fully transparent, then identifier 1 is applied to the first background defined in the config file, etc.

# Mouse actions for tasks (taskbar buttons)

# The possible mouse events are:
# left, middle, right, scroll_up, scroll_down.

# The possible mouse actions are:
# none, close, toggle, iconify, shade, toggle_iconify, maximize_restore, desktop_left, desktop_right, next_task, prev_task.

# Use mouse_event = action to customize mouse actions. Example:
# mouse_middle = none
# mouse_right = close
# mouse_scroll_up = toggle
# mouse_scroll_down = iconify

# The action semantics:
# close : close the task
# toggle : toggle the task
# iconify : iconify (minimize) the task
# toggle_iconify : toggle or iconify the task
# maximize_restore : maximized or minimized the task
# shade : shades (collapses) the task
# desktop_left : send the task to the desktop on the left
# desktop_right : send the task to the desktop on the right
# next_task : send the focus to next task
# prev_task : send the focus to previous task

# none :
# If a mouse action is set to none and wm_menu = 1 [under Panel, above] is set, the mouse event is forwarded to the window manager.
# Otherwise it is ignored.

# End of config

There are some things that could be re-arranged a bit - I just put things in in the same order they're presented on the configuration web page, and haven't bothered trying any other order. Later on, I may-or-may-not post a re-structured version.

I will most probably not be able to help you solve any major issues with tint2, but I figured that a heavily commented tint2rc file at least should be able to help those who have minor tint2 issues.

The tint2 used in BunsenLabs 8 (RC1) is v. 0.11.
There seems to be a more recent version - v. 0.12 - available, with a few things added on its configuration page, but the new configuration page is otherwise just a copy ("spelinge rorrs" et al).

(I hope I've posted this in the correct section - if not, please move it. smile )

edits: see my comments in a post below

(note: I've rearranged the order of the background_id's, compared to how they're presented in the CB11 and BL8rc1 tint2rc's, to have them in the order they're being used. Apart from that, the background_id's above are identical with the one's for CB11 and BL8rc1.)

Re: basic tint2rc, heavily commented, incl. CB 11 and BL 8 (RC1) defaults

Many thanks for this phle. (And this subforum is the best place for it.)

We might well import some of this into the default BL config, starting with the launcher icons. I've started a discussion: https://forums.bunsenlabs.org/viewtopic … 5701#p5701

Awesome work phle -- I used this myself yesterday smile

Re: basic tint2rc, heavily commented, incl. CB 11 and BL 8 (RC1) defaults

and of course, after having posted it, I discovered that the background_id = 9 (added by me) ended up within the "set in both CB11 and BL8rc1" section
(yes, background_id = 8 is present in both CB11 and BL8rc1, but used in neither)

I will edit the top-post now,
and also include my added comments for the launcher_icon_asb alternatives, and include the values suggested by johnraff

# less prominent
#launcher_icon_asb = 75 -20 -15
# almost greyscale
launcher_icon_asb = 70 -45 -10
# full opacity, 100 % greyscale, and just slightly darker
#launcher_icon_asb = 100 -100 -5

Also included in the edit, is a variant for the systray_icon_asb, with relevant comments

# systray_icon_asb = alpha (0 to 100) saturation (-100 to 100) brightness (-100 to 100)
# Adjust the systray icons color and transparency.
# ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ for both CrunchBang 11 Waldorf ~~~~~~
# and BunsenLabs 8 Hydrogen RC1 ~~
#systray_icon_asb = 100 0 0
# ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
# full opacity, 60 % greyscale, and somewhat darker
# this dampens the colours for e.g. a present VLC icon,
# but (for better or worse) also dampens any colour used in the battery icon
systray_icon_asb = 100 -60 -10
# ----------------------------------------------------------------------

If you copy it, and save it to a file in your ~/.config/tint2/ directory,
e.g. as ~/.config/tint2/commented_CB11_BL8-rc1.tint2rc
you can then use the tint2 Chooser ([Super]+[Space] → Preferences → Tint2 → Tint2 Chooser) to try it out.

# Mouse actions for tasks (taskbar buttons)

# The possible mouse events are:
# left, middle, right, scroll_up, scroll_down.

# The possible mouse actions are:
# none, close, toggle, iconify, shade, toggle_iconify, maximize_restore, desktop_left, desktop_right, next_task, prev_task.

# Use mouse_event = action to customize mouse actions. Example:
# mouse_middle = none
# mouse_right = close
# mouse_scroll_up = toggle
# mouse_scroll_down = iconify

Thanks, I've saved this config and am using it now.

Re: basic tint2rc, heavily commented, incl. CB 11 and BL 8 (RC1) defaults

just a little remark:
tint2 has a LOT of new features nowadays that weren't present in 2015!

Re: basic tint2rc, heavily commented, incl. CB 11 and BL 8 (RC1) defaults

Thanks. For the moment though, with phle's configuration it does what I want a panel to do; it shows which applications are running in what workspace and enables you to change to that workspace, and it shows the time and date (and the week number). I don't really need any more than that.

My next priority is a good Conky configuration.

Thanks again, I'll look into that one.
