after recently maxing my maxing my Jessie 8.7 ive decided to up the ante and forge my own journey all leading up to taking on the latest bunsenlabs build
Unfortunately after finally updating I did run into some new issues and I cant find a solution. Tint2 is missing some icons, wifi - volume - and battery have all disappeared.

Did you go straight from hydrogen/jessie to lithium/buster sources? This is not recommended (it bypasses an entire release, helium/stretch) and will probably make it hard to figure out what's happened if that's the case.
Give us more information about what you started with and what you've done to upgrade. Also post the results of...
apt-cache policy tint2
I don't care what you do at home. Would you care to explain?

Also, what does panel_items in your tint2 config file (menu>tint2>edit tint2s>running tint2>whateever) say?
Does it have S and B in it?

Installed: 16.6-1
Candidate: 16.6-1
Version table:
*** 16.6-1 500
500 https://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian helium/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
0.12.12-3 500
500 http://deb.debian.org/debian stretch/main amd64 Packages
Lets say upgrading was a major pain and I did it ~2 weeks ago with some help. repositories needed some changing and I had some help with that.
honestly a fresh install is probably my best bet

^Add B to the panel items in your config (the last line in the below code)
# Panel
panel_monitor = all
panel_position = top center horizontal
panel_items = TSBC
The S in that code is for Systray which includes the volume, network, wifi icons. Given the face that its alredy there, not sure why they aren't showing up. Anyway, let us know if addition of B brings out battery.

^Check if you're indeed using the same tint2 config instead of something else. If it is the same, it's beyond my expertise and perhaps you need to do a complete reinstall.

For battery, if your using xfce4-power-manager, run xfce4-power-manager-settings>General>Appearance>enable system tray icon
