big_smile I decided to stick with Openbox a long time ago, for the exact same reason. Until I worked out how to get my nvidia graphics working with BL, I used Mint+OB+BL scripts.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

I love KDE on buster and have it as a session on BL lithium along with an OB one. I haven't logged in KDE for the last month while I've been making some BL themes. I got KDEConnect working in the OB session a few days later, and then we got a great exit script working, since then I haven't missed Plasma once.

-edit- I rarely test a new distro these days. I wonder if it's the same for everyone, but for me I've very, very gradually slowed from wanting to play with Linux and learn more to wanting to just use it 99% of the time.

Oh my banana. Installed BL in the evening, restored my horizontal top screen conky, minimalised tint, removed windows decorations, transparent borders aaaaaaaaaaand.......

I am home. Thank you BL team.

Exactly... whenever I distro hop I have this 'oooh let's play, look at this, this is shiny, this is fresh, this is........ WHY THE HECK THIS DOESN'T WORK LIKE I AM USED TO, WHY [generic, BL shortcut] DOES NOT DO WHAT IT DOES IN BL'

As my friend said when I showed him BL - back to the 00's interface.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

^ it's not exactly unreachable, but I get a security warning. Normally I do not give a wet cough about what my browser thinks is "trusted", but this time it looks worse:

linuxbbq.org uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is only valid for the following names: hostingraja.in, cpanel.hostingraja.in, mail.hostingraja.in, webdisk.hostingraja.in, webmail.hostingraja.in, www.hostingraja.in

hostingraja?

it also won't let me connect at all.

i can still 'ping linuxbbq.org' though.

trying to connect with dillo, it redirects to some "Adbuzz" page.

:'(

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=linuxbbq.org

It must have been dead since before the New Year. The domain was registered in December by namebright.com, which itself is a domain registry service. Also, it's registered from Kartanaka, India, but Julius, who ran the BBQ, lived in China. hostingraja.in is a major Indian web hosting company.

Aha! Thank you slob. I was a little bit gutted at the thought that the bbq had gone bellyup.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

@beaks & notinen
I actually wouldn't have found out had I not mistakenly entered .com while browsing on someone else's tablet. Honestly thought it died after the old .org domain lapsed and got squatted on. Thing is, I think I'm one of the few who made that fortunate mistake, and most of the past members still probably think it's gone for good. I don't think wux and the rest of the admins had much motivation to inform members (via email), since, with regards to releases/spins, the project's essentially dead now. Shame, since the banter was quite good over there back in the heyday.

Re: Distro-hoppers anonymous

Those guys could really shave RAM off of a desktop, I'll give them that.

-edit- Lol, I remember when we finally released hydrogen, the comments were things like "1700 packages? This is what you get when you design something 'by committee'." :monkey: Jules was very fair, he pointed to our summary and said that we were true to what we were claiming to be, and that we deserved a chance...

Defining features

The distribution consists of configuration and resource packages installed on top of Debian. There are no changes to the way the Debian base system is administrated.

Pre-configured Openbox window manager with tint2 panel and conky system monitor
Assortment of harmonising GTK2/3 themes, wallpapers and conky configurations
Various configuration and application utilities to maintain this system
Additional desktop-, multimedia- and hardware-related packages come pre-installed to offer a better “out-of-the-box” experience.

Kudos to @nobody for creating that summary, it has served us well.
